Abstract

An assembly comprising a first panel received within a groove in a second panel, the second panel including a bore intersecting said groove, a plug adapted to be at least partially inserted into said bore such that a surface of said plug acts against an edge of said first panel when said first panel is inserted into said groove to urge said first panel away from an inner end of said groove.

Claims (17)

1. An assembly comprising a first panel received within a groove in a second panel, the second panel including a bore intersecting said groove, a plug adapted to be at least partially inserted into said bore from a first face of said second panel such that a surface of said plug acts against an edge of said first panel when said first panel is inserted into said groove to urge said first panel away from an inner end of said groove.
2. An assembly as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said surface of the plug acting against said edge of the first panel comprises a cam surface, whereby rotation of said plug within said bore urges said first panel away from said inner end the groove.

An assembly as claimed in claim 2, wherein the plug comprises a cylindrical outer portion and an inner portion axially spaced from said outer portion, said inner portion comprising said cam surface defining an eccentric surface of varying radius adapted to engage said edge of the first panel when inserted in the groove of the second panel.
4. An assembly as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said surface of the plug acting against said edge of the first panel comprises a tapered surface, whereby insertion of said plug into said bore urges said first panel away from said inner end the groove.
5. An assembly as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the plug is provided with an external thread and/or fir tree formations on the outer sides thereof.
6. An assembly as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein said bore comprises a blind circular hole extending from a face of said second panel.
7. An assembly as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein one end of the plug is provided with a recess or other formation adapted to be engaged by a suitable tool to facilitate insertion and rotation of the plug within the receiving bore.
8. An assembly as claimed in any preceding claim, comprising a securing part adapted to be attachable to the plug from a second face of said second panel to secure the plug in place within the bore.
9. An assembly as claimed in claim 8, wherein said securing part is adapted to be at least partially inserted into said bore from second face of the second panel.
10. An assembly as claimed in claim 9, wherein said securing part and said plug may incorporate cooperating threaded portions to allow the securing part to be attached to the plug.
11. An assembly as claimed in claim 9 or claim 10, wherein said securing part may extend from said second face of the second panel and/or may be connectable to a spacer member for spacing the second panel from a surface.
12. An assembly as claimed in claim 11 , wherein said spacer member is attachable to said surface.
13. A plug adapted to be at least partially inserted into a bore intersecting a receiving groove of a first panel adapted to receive an edge of a second panel, wherein the plug has a surface adapted to engage the edge of the second panel and urge the second panel away from an inner end of said groove, thereby taking up any looseness of the rear panel in its mounting slots in the article of furniture.
14. A plug as claimed in claim 13, wherein said surface of the plug adapted to act against said edge of the first panel comprises a cam surface, whereby rotation of said plug within said bore urges said first panel away from said inner end the groove.
15. A plug as claimed in claim 13, wherein said surface of the plug adapted to act against said edge of the first panel comprises a tapered surface, whereby insertion of said plug into said bore urges said first panel away from said inner end the groove.
16. A plug as claimed in any of claims 13 to 15, wherein the plug is provided with an external thread and/or fir tree formations on the outer sides thereof .
17. A plug as claimed in any of claims 13 to 16, wherein one end of the plug is provided with a recess or other formation adapted to be engaged by a suitable tool to facilitate insertion and rotation of the plug within the receiving bore.
