Abstract

259,519. Barrett, R. T. B., and Jones, S. J. July 1, 1926. Weather screens or side curtains for motor or other vehicles, of the kind in which the side curtains can be manipulated from inside the vehicle, which is provided with a collapsable hood, are supported in their closing positions by rods which are pivoted to the hood bows by a swivelling attachment whereby they may be brought alongside the hood bows when the hood is to be collapsed. As shown in Fig. 1, the side curtains e, f, g are adapted to be withdrawn from and inserted into recesses formed by the outer and inner covering c, d of the hood and pass over rods n carried by swivelling arms o connected to the hood bows b, b<1>, b<2>. The swivelling arms. o comprise a link o<1>, Figs. 4 and 5, mounted on a stud q<1> under spring control, the stud being carried by a bracket q pivotally mounted on a plate q<3> secured to the hood bow. The rods n are aligned and connected by a spigot and socket joint n<1>. In the form shown in Figs. 6 and 8, the curtains s are of the spring-roller type and the curtain rods r are of tubular form adapted to house the roller curtain. A bracket o<4> is provided on the swivelling arm o<1> to secure the adjacent tube r so that the side curtains overlap.
