Abstract

A blank 2 for forming a box suitable for storing a plurality of condom boxes. The blank forms inner 4 and outer 1 containers that can be separated by a plurality of perforation lines 5. The outer container encloses the perforations such that they can’t be seen when the blank is erected. The blank ideally comprises supports (3 & 7; figure 5) configured to inhibit sideways motion of the condom boxes. The outer container ideally comprises a closure portion 20 that covers the perforations. Ideally the blank is made from a paper-based material. Preferably, the outer box is dimensioned such that it can fit through a letter box.

Description

Packaging box Packaging provides an important role in protecting a product during transit. This is even more important for purchases via e-commerce where goods are transported directly to the home often via the postal service. This mode of delivery requires a more robust form of packaging to ensure the product is received without damage.
Products such as condoms, which are generally sold in boxes having multiple items, provide an additional challenge. It is desirable for the consumer to carry individual items and the boxes in which the products are provided to the consumer are not convenient for this purpose.
The present disclosure provides a delivery box for storing products such as boxes of condoms that is configured so that a consumer can form an additional box for carrying individual items such as individual condoms whilst maintaining the strength of the delivery box.
Embodiments will now be described with reference to the Figures.
Figure 1 shows a blank for a box having perforations defining the edge of a pouch blank; Figure 2 shows the box of for storing condoms; Figure 3 shows a side view of the pouch; Figure 4 shows the pouch blank; Figure 5 shows a flap portion of the box in a first configuration; and Figure 6 shows a flap portion of the box in a second configuration.
Figure 1 comprises a blank 2 for a box 1. The blank 2 comprises fold lines 10 that allow the blank 2 to be folded to form the box with an enclosed volume that may be used as a delivery box.
The blank comprises a closure portion 20, a top 12, a base 11, sides 14 and a flap portion 6. The flap portion 6 comprises at least part of a pouch blank 4 and packaging support 7, 3.
The base 11 comprises an edge 8 and a slot 9. The base folds along fold lines 10 to allow the edge 3 to fix mechanically into the slot 9. The base 11 and sides 14 form an area into which boxes can be placed when in a folded configuration.
Figure 2 shows an example of the box in a closed configuration.
Figure 4 shows the pouch blank. The pouch blank 4 comprises fold lines 10, side portions 22, a lip 32 and a lip receiver 22. The pouch blank 4 may be folded to form a pouch by folding 1.
along the fold lines 10. The pouch is sized to correspond to a condom foil packet e.g. a foil and enable a user to conveniently carry one or more individual condoms.
The fold lines of the pouch blank allow portions of the pouch blank 4 to be more easily folded e.g. provide parts that are preferentially folded. The pouch blank comprises two arms 24, 26 and flaps 28, 30. The flap 28 comprises a lip 32 and the flap 30 and the flap 30 comprises a lip receiver 22.
The two arms 24, 26 and flaps 28, 30 are configured to be folded about fold lines 10 and the flaps 28, 30 are configured to be folded to cover the arms 28, 30 to make the pouch. The lip 32 is configured to be received by the lip receiver 22 and the placement of the lip 32 into the lip receiver 22 allows the flaps 28, 30 to be kept in a closed position. A user may open the pouch by removing the lip 32 from the lip receiver 22 allowing the flaps 28, 30 to be moved from the configuration where they are covering the arms 24, 26.
The blank 2 comprises one or more perforations 5 that allow a user to remove the pouch blank 4 from the blank 2. The perforations correspond to a weakened part of the blank. The perforations may be a series of holes, pre-formed cuts, slots and/or etching. The perforations allow the user to more easily remove the pouch blank from the pouch. For example, a user may tear along the perforations to remove the pouch blank from the blank. The separation of the pouch blank from the blank allows a user to fold the pouch blank into a pouch that can be used to carry individual packs of condoms. In an example the pouch is sized to fit an individual condom packet. For example, pouch has internal dimension of approximately 55mm to 65mm by 55mm to 65mm, for example 57mm to 63mm by 57mm to 63mm, for example 57mm by 60mm, for example 58mm by 60mm, for example 59mm by 60mm.
The folds 10 and perforations 5 are arranged on the blank 2 so that when the box is formed from the blank 2 and the box 1 is in a closed configuration the perforations 5 are located on an inner surface of the box 1.
In the example illustrated, the closure portion 20 is arranged to cover the perforations 5 when the blank 2 in formed into a box 2. The closure portion 20 comprises sides 14, an opening strip 16 and closure tape 18. In this example, the closure tape 18 comprises an adhesive portion that is configured to adhere the closure portion to the outer surface of the base 11. The opening strip 16 corresponds to a part of the closure portion 20 that is separable. For example, the edges of the opening strip 16 may be perforated to allow the opening strip to be easily separated.
In use, a user may open the box by removing opening strip 16. The removal of the opening strip 16 decouples the part of the closure portion adhered to the outer surface of the base from the side 14. Once removed, the part of the closure portion 20 on the closure tape 18 side of the opening strip 16 remains adhered to the base 11 whilst the other part of the closure portion is movable. This allows the contents of the box to be accessed.
Figure 3 shows the closure portion 20 as the box 1 in an intermediate configuration between opened and closed. As shown in Figures 1 and 3 the closure portion 20 is of a length so that the closure tape attaches to a part of the base 11 to cover the perforations 5. For example, in the example illustrated in Figure 1 the closure portion 20 is a length to cover the lip 32 of the pouch blank which extends on to the base 11.
In use, a user may close the box 1 by folding the closure 20 along the fold lines 10. In a folded configuration the side 14 attached to the closure portion 20 covers the side 14 located between the base 11 and top 12. The closure covers at least part of the base 11 allowing the closure tape 18 to attach to the base 11.
As discussed above, the perforations 5 are a weakened part of the blank. This weakening may provide a point of weakness for the box structure. The box may be strengthened by covering the perforations with another part of the blank. Covering the perforated parts of the blank with other parts of the blank on the box formed from the blank minimises the perforations located on the outer surface of the box and therefore minimises the weakened portions of the box exposed to the environment.
The blank 2 may comprise one or more packaging supports 3, 7. The one or more packaging supports 3, 7 allow an item located within the box 1 that is smaller than the box to be held more securely by inhibiting the movement of the item within the box 1. In the example illustrated, the blank 2 comprises packaging support 3 that is joined to packaging support 7 via fold line 10. The fold line allows packaging support 7 to be folded relative to packing support 3.
Figure 5 shows a box holding a single box of condoms and the packaging supports 3, 7. As illustrated, the packaging supports 3, 7 are folded to inhibit sideways movement of the condom box within box 1. Figure 6 shows a box with two boxes of condom with the packaging supports 3 located adjacent the front of the condom boxes and packaging supports 7 located adjacent the side of the condom boxes.
In an example the packaging supports 3, 7 inhibit sideways movement of the condom box sized 125 x 63 x 37. For example, a one sized box may be used to deliver a single condom box or two condom boxes by using the packaging supports 3, 7.
In the examples illustrated the box is able to hold either a single box of condoms or two boxes of condoms. In other examples the box may hold three, four or five etc. boxes of condoms.
In an example, the box 1 is sized to have an outer dimension to fit through a letterbox, for example an opening of 6 inches x 0.375 inches (152.4 mm x 9.5 mm).
In an example, the box 1 is sized to have an internal dimension to fit multiple condom boxes sized 125 x 63 x 37. For example, a box may have an internal dimension of approximately 125 x 63 x 37, 125 x 126 x 37, 125 x 189 x 37 and/or 125 x 252 x 37.
In an example, the box may be made from a paperbased material e.g. cardboard.
Further modifications and developments can be made without departing from the scope of the invention described herein.
