Abstract

A spring biased clip may be integrally provided on, or retrofitted to, the inside face of the temple arms of a pair of spectacles. The clip may be elastic in nature and biased to the closed position. The clip may be hinged about a fulcrum or pivot Figure 2. It may be secured by an elastic sleeve to the temple arm Figure 2. An elastic band may be located about the clip and may be extended to locate over the bridge of the spectacles Figures 4 and 5. The band may provide further tension to hold the spectacle arms in the closed position when located on a garment or on a seam of a pocket.

Description

Description documentation for invention of a temple/arm of eye-glasses/sun-glasses with an integrated clothes/garment clip
Description and field of the Invention
The invention pertains generally to a storage safety improvement to eye-glasses / sunglasses. More specifically, the invention relates to the addition of an integrated (or detachable) clip to the upper arm ( or Temple) of the eye-wear so that they can be affixed safely and securely to the rim of any garment when not in use. The aim of the invention is to prevent damage or loss of eye-wear due to having no safe or secure purchase if they were to be hung normally from clothes when not in use ( usually with just the arm and the rims encasing the garment with no gripping action). The arm would be comprised of a normal eye-glass / sun-glass arm but with the addition of an extra spring hinged arm attached to the inside of the arm, as close to the hinge end of the eye-wear as possible. This extra arm would be spring hinged to enable it to retain a tight, safe and secure grip once attached to the rim of a garment. The rim of the garment would be placed between the arm of the eye-glasses and the grip and once the grip is closed the aforementioned glasses would be securely attached. The addition of a piece of elastic to stretch and fit over the front of the eye-glasses and secured via the bridge would add extra stability and keep the eye-pieces flush with the garment.
The invention possesses numerous benefits and advantages over other known safety eye-wear retainers (namely a string or cord attached to the end pieces of each arm). In particular, the invention -being almost invisible when not in use would be more aesthetically pleasing and could also be integrated into the manufacturing process of the eye-wear or as a separate after-market addition. It also holds a significant adavantage over the other solution ( namely a cord or string attached to each arm) in that, when exercising for example, the eye-glasses would not bounce around as much as those secured by a cord or string.
It is envisaged that this arm could either be incorporated in the original arm at manufacturing or also produced as an after-market add on to any eye-wear which could be slipped onto the temple/arm and attach itself via a sleeve made of non-slip elasticated / moldable rubber.
It can thus be seen that the invention detailed above provides an innovative, elegant and above all, highly practical solution which improves vastly on current eye-wear safety and field storage technology (namely a piece of string or cord). Claim
