Abstract
257,168. Alexander, W. Feb. 9, 1926. Density separators.-A separator of the vortex type, for the purification of steam or other vapours or gases, has a chamber 3 with an inlet passage 5 to which the vapour is admitted through converging passages formed by vanes 1 fixed between the casing 2 and the cover plate 9. The vanes extend inwards to a less radius than the walls of the separating chamber. The purified vapour outlet 10 may be provided at the same end of the separator as the vanes 1, or at the other end. The end of the pipe 10 has a lip 13, and the outlet 7 for condensed water or solids has a guide vane 8. The apparatus shown in Fig. 1 is attached to the inside of the boiler shell 14. The modified form shown in Fig. 5 is fitted in a pipe line 15 and a baffle plate 17 is fixed within the separating chamber.
