Abstract

Controllers with overload release. -The action of switching on a motor by moving a handle 2, Fig. 2, is made to exert a positive mechanical restraint upon the overload plunger 5 so as to prevent its movement during the the rush of current at starting. The action is transmitted from the handle 2 through toggle links 29, 28, a pin and slot 26, 27, a lever 23, a spring 17, and a bell-crank 8, 14 to a brake block 4. which thus bears forcibly upon the side of the plunger. The completion of the movement of the handle frees the pin and slot connection as shown in Fig. 5, and the brake block releases the plunger after a time interval due to a dashpot 3.
