Production of metal.- A colourless glass for absorbing ultra-violet rays contains an ingredient which will absorb the rays but will colour the glass, and a second ingredient, also efficient in absorbing the rays, which has the property of neutralizing the colour imparted to the glass by the first ingredient. In making Crookes glass containing cerium, the yellow colour imparted to the glass by the cerium is neutralized by adding didymium. The proportion of cerium in the batch may be about 3.5 per cent and that of didymium about 0.7 per cent.
