Scoring.- In the preparation of paper for allowing portions to be detached, a line of depressions 10 is formed, each depression of which is separated from the next by a narrow bridge, by which the portions of the sheet lying on opposite sides of each line of depressions are mainly connected. The paper is fed into the machine by rolls 42, 42a to taper-edged depression-forming discs 12 coacting with an anvil-roller 25. Radial notches 14 in the discs allow of the formation of the bridges. The discs are keyed to a shaft geared to the anvil shaft and rotated in hangers 16 with balanceweights 17. The hangers are secured in adjusted position on a rod 18 by screws 19. Screws 31 on the hangers contact with a rod 30 to space the discs form the anvil. The beam is prevented from bending by a grooved backing beam 33. A flat 30a on the rod allows the balance-weights to lift the discs for feeding in. Stripper plates 38 are secured to the hangers. The paper is delivered by rolls 43, 43a.
