Abstract
256,167. Karas Electric Co., (Assignees of Karas, L. L.). Aug. 1, 1925, [Convention date]. Condensers of the straight - line frequency type comprise a series of conducting elements mounted for rotational movement relatively to a series of fixed conducting elements, both series of elements having the outline or contour shown in the drawing. The stationary plates 14 are mounted on a pair of strips 7 of rubber, glass, or suitable dielectric located af the ends of plates 5, and are seated in slits 11.1 in channel members 11 secured, as by soldering, in slotted heads 10 of binding posts 8, 9, the plates 14 being recessed at 16 and shouldered at 17 to engage the members 11 for proper alignment. Additional securing means for the plates comprise a pin 19 secured to lugs 18 on the plates 14, while similar lugs 20 and a pin 21 are provided on the movable plates 15, the lugs 20 serving to space the pin 21 away from the fixed plates when the plates are arranged as in Fig. 1. Recesses 22 en the plates 15 engage slits 23 in the shaft 24 and the plates are shouldered at 25 to secure proper alignment; The shape of the plates is such that each degree of rotation corresponds to a definite number of frequency cycles. One end of shaft 24 is journaled on a centering pin 26 while the other end is tapered and reduced to engage a bearing sleeve 27, the pin and sleeve being adjustable to get the plates 15 in proper position relative to the plates 14. The shaft is further recessed at 31, 32 to engage a stop 33 on one plate 5 and the moving plates are electrically connected to a binding post 34 through the plate 5 and also through a lead 35.
