Decorative element structure with multiple elements Background of the invention [0001] The invention relates to decorative element structures with multiple elements having a lichen (such as reindeer lichen a.k.a. reindeer moss or other lichen used for decorative purposes) surface or another ornamental plant surface and, in particular, to a novel fastening method thereof.
[0002] It is known in the art to use interior decoration elements with a lichen surface in connection with residential buildings and public buildings, for example, to provide a comfortable atmosphere, visual impressiveness or io improved acoustics in a space.
[0003] Prior art decorative elements with ornamental plant surfaces are fastened to an object, such as a wall, by using rivets or screws.
[0004] Prior art solutions involve problems, particularly with regard to the amount of work needed for the fastening and also to the modifiability of is the fastening site. An attempt to solve the above-mentioned problem is known from the applicant’s utility model FI-10942, which discloses a different type of fastening method wherein a decorative element is fastened from its porous back surface by means of a fastening structure with protrusions/hooks on its surface, such as an adhesive strip having an adhesive back surface for at20 tachment to a wall, for example. Although this positioning provides a significant improvement, it is not optimal yet.
[0005] Summary of the invention [0006] An object of the invention is thus to provide a novel decorative element structure with multiple elements so as to enable the aforemen25 tioned problem to be solved. The object of the invention is achieved by a decorative element structure characterized by what is disclosed in the independent claim. Preferred embodiments of the invention are disclosed in the dependent claims.
[0007] The invention is based on a novel positioning for a good fas30 tening structure.
[0008] An advantage of the invention is a stable and easy fastening,
i.e. a positioning for the fastening of an assembly of multiple decorative elements such that a stable contact line between the elements is achieved and yet the fastening can be modified during mounting.
[0009] List of figures [0010] The invention is now described in closer detail in connection with preferred embodiments and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is front view of a decorative element structure with multiple elements,
Figure 2 is view from behind of a decorative element structure with multiple elements,
Figure 3 is a side view of the decorative element structure attached to a wall, seen from the direction of the bottom of Figure 1.
Detailed description of the invention [0011] With reference to Figures 1 to 3, there is thus shown a decorative element structure with multiple elements, and when assembled at an object, the structure comprises multiple, e.g. four, decorative elements E1 to E4. Each of the elements E1 to E4 may have a similar basic structure, i.e. like to one disclosed for element E1, which element E1 comprises a backing structure B1 and, attached to the front surface FS1 thereof and supported by the backing structure, an ornamental plant M, such as moss or lichen. The ornamental plant may be glued onto the backing structure B1. The size of the decorative elements E1 to E4 may vary, their length x width may be 60 cm x 40 cm, thickness being some centimetres, for example. The size of a 4-element structure would thus be 2 x 60 cm, i.e. 120 cm, in width and 2x 40 cm, i.e. 80cm, in height. The decorative element structure would thus have a 120 cm long, twopart horizontal contact line CL1 (between E1, E3), CL2 (between E2, E4) in the middle thereof and, in a crosswise (vertical) direction to that, a second two-part contact line CL3 (between E1, E2), CL4 (between E3, E4) having a total length of 80 cm.
[0012] The backing structure B1 of element E1 has a front surface FS1 which is covered by some other ornamental plant material, the backing structure B1 being therefore depicted with a broken line in Figure 1. In addition to the front surface FS1, the backing structure B1 comprises a back surface BS1, which is the surface of decorative element E1 that faces an object W, such as a wall W, as shown in Figure 3. The front surfaces of the backing structures B2 to B4 of the other elements E2-E4 are indicated with reference markings FS2 to FS4 and their back surfaces with BS2 to BS4.
[0013] A fastening structure STL, STV1, STV2 on the back surface BS1 to BS4 of the backing structure B1 to B4 comprises one or more adhesive strips or another adhesive piece STL, STV1, STV2, which on an outermost side thereof comprises an adhesive surface GL for attachment to the object, while on its opposite side the adhesive piece STL, STV1, STV2 comprises a protrusion structure HS for gripping the porous surfaces of the back surfaces, such as BS1 to BS4, of the backing structures B1 to B4.
[0014] An essential aspect is that the one or more adhesive strips or some other adhesive piece, such as STL, with its protrusions HS, serving as the fastening structure is placed parallel to a contact line, such as CL1, of contacting decorative elements, such as E1, E3, at the contact line. Correspondingly, the same adhesive piece STL is at contact line CL2 of elements E2 and E4. The adhesive pieces STL, STV1, STV2 are 2 cm wide, for example, i.e. they extend for about 1cm onto each contacting element, such as E1, E3 or E2, E4, similarly as the adhesive piece STL. The adhesive surface GL at the back of the adhesive piece is a glue surface, which is covered by a protective strip until mounted to the target W. Other widths of the adhesive piece, such as an adhesive strip, are also possible, e.g. widths of 1 or 2 inches.
[0015] Consequently, the porous or soft back surface BS1 of the backing structure B1 of the decorative element, such as E1, serves as a counterpart for the adhesive strip STL comprising the protrusion surface HS, which strip is attachable to the object W from its outward adhesive surface GL, such as a glue surface GL.
[0016] In an embodiment, the backing structure is made of polypropene or felt.
[0017] Attachment to the object W, such as a wall, is performed by first fastening the adhesive strip STL horizontally to the wall from its adhesive surface GL, the adhesive strip pieces STV1, STV2 crosswise to the adhesive strip STL being fastened above and below the adhesive strip piece STL from their adhesive surfaces. Next, elements E1 to E4 are positioned one by one on top of the adhesive strips STL, STV1, STV2 so that contacting peripheral areas of elements E1, E3 and the corresponding horizontal contact line CL1 come on top of the left-hand half (on the right in Figure 2) of the horizontal adhesive strip piece STL, and the contacting peripheral areas of elements E2, E4 and the corresponding horizontal contact line CL2 come on top of the right-hand half (on the left in Figure 2) of the horizontal adhesive strip piece STL. At the same time, the vertical contact line CL3 of elements E1, E2 and the contacting peripheral areas of elements E1, E2 come on top of the protrusion surface of the upper adhesive strip STV1 and, correspondingly, the vertical contact line CL4 of elements E3, E4 comes on top of the protrusion surface of the lower adhesive piece STV2.
[0018] The adhesive strip, such as STL, comprising the protrusion surface HS, such as a hooking surface, which may be of Velcro type, and serving as its counterpart/pieces, there is the soft back surface BS1 to BS4 of the porous backing elements B1 to B4 of the decorative elements E1 to E4 next to io or contacting one another adjacent to the contact lines CL1 to CL4, which back surface BS1 to BS4 the protrusions, such as hooks, of the protrusion surface
HS grip.
[0019] A person skilled in the art will find it obvious that, as technology advances, the basic idea of the invention may be implemented in various is ways. The invention and its embodiments are thus not restricted to the examples described above but may vary within the scope of the claims.
