Abstract

A segmented pallet comprises a plurality of stringers or rails 1 affixed to beams or webs 2 via fastenings, which may be quarter turn keys or plugs 3. Recessed sections in the stringers Fig 3, 4 may engage with projections Figure 4, 5 in the beams. The number of the stringers Fig 5, 1 and beams Fig 6, 2 may be varied as may be the relative position of the stringers to the beams to suit the size of the item being supported. The components may be made from plastic. If sections of the pallet are damaged or broken they may be replaced or the entire pallet may be recycled. The pallet may be flat packed, knock down or disassembled after use to allow ease of transportation.

Title
A linked segmental modular pallet
12 16
Short Description
This invention relates to a design of pallet containing linked segmental modular parts consisting of top slats (fig5) base transverse platforms (fig6) and Locking Plugs (fig2) which enable the design to be simply constructed and disassembled by hand without the need of any tools thus allowing for ease of bulk transport and repair unlike many wooden or plastic items available today not allowing such versatility. The claim to this design is that the linked segmental modular top slats are keyed and locked to the base platforms as shown at points No 4 (fig3) and point No 5 (fig 4) creating a stable solid base that is held together with locking plugs as shown at point 3 (fig 1) with a repeat design that can be used for several different styles of pallet product.
All panels for example have the benefit of being recyclable and with the possibility of being manufactured from recycled materials.

Full Description
A linked segmental modular pallet.
This invention relates to pallets that are used extensively worldwide for transporting goods upon. The bulk of pallets used worldwide tend to be manufactured from wood which can have disadvantages as the use of wood requires pallets to be in the majority needing to be replaced frequently as in many cases being uneconomical to repair due to it being a labour intensive cost making wooden pallets costly and uneconomical in the long term.
There have been several attempts at making a modular segmental pallet in recent times made from for example plastic, whilst many of these designs try to address the issue they all tend to be of very complex design and as such very limiting when it comes to repair due to multiple component parts required.
The segmental modular pallet design shown here has addressed several issues and in the design shows it only requires two main component parts and locking plugs that are repeated to construct a modular pallet that can be repaired with ease by just replacing for example a single damaged part without the need for any special tools or construction systems as this design is assembled and disassembled by hand making it suitable for use worldwide where little or no training is required to repair the unit for reuse and being modular and segmental allows for great space saving when being transported flat packed to distribution depots.
At present in the current market place it would be beneficial to manufacture from recycled plastic helping to reduce landfill of waste plastic with the added benefit due that each component should they become damaged in use are then small enough to be recycled at a local depot.

Drawings accompanying:
Fig 1 shows a fully assembled linked segmental pallet of modular parts with item numbers that are as follows No 1 shows the three top slats No 2 shows the three base platforms No 3 shows the nine locking plugs.
Fig 2 shows a locking plug for this shown assembled example nine items are required for Fig 1 (no3).
Fig 3 shows a single top slat labelled No 1 with position No 4 shown at six points shows the locking points that attach at No 5 (Fig 4) with position No 6 being where locking plug No 3 (Fig 2) passes through to lock into base platform No 2 (Fig 4).
Fig 4 shows a single base platform labelled No 2 position at No 5 shown at four points are the secondary push in lock in points for position No 4 (Fig 3) also shown is position No 7 this is where locking plug No 3 (Fig 2) is secured in place to secure items No 1 and No 2 together.
Fig 5 shows the three identical top slats in this design as used in the constructed pallet shown in Fig 1 .
Fig 6 shows the three identical base platforms used in the constructed pallet shown in Fig 1.

Claims (4)

Claims
1. A pallet of modular construction comprising of three major components a top slat a base platform and locking plug the quantity and size of which can be altered to determine the size of the pallet.
2. The top slats comprise of keyed locking points fig 3 no4 designed to co-join with the transverse base platform with unique connections shown fig 4 no5.
3. The transverse base platforms have unique connections fig 4 no5 to co-join with the top slat at fig 3 no4 to provide a stable platform.
4. The locking plug fig 2 no3 has keyed pegs and is used to secure after passing through the top slat fig 3 at no6 and into the base platform fig 4 at no7 which is then rotated to click lock the components together.
