Abstract

Storage apparatus having two sections, a static section 10 positioned above a ceiling of a room e.g. attic, and a vertically moveable section 8 that moves from inside the fixed section 10, through an opening in the ceiling, to a position within the room and vice versa. Articles can be placed into or out of the moveable section 8 and moved to a stored position inside the fixed section. The moveable section 8 may be moved using an electric motor 40 that operates a winch drum 40 to release and rewind winch ropes 44 guided through pulley wheels 45 and telescopic members 37. The telescopic members both guide and couple the two sections together. The motor 40 is preferably operated by a remote control 48. Alternatively a counterweight system may be used to allow the moveable section to be manually manipulated. Preferably the base of the moveable section 8 closes the opening in the ceiling when the section is inside the fixed section 10. The fixed section comprises a frame that is preferably clad to form a housing. The moveable section comprises a base, and preferably sides, top wall and a front wall with one or more hinged doors.
