Abstract

A pair of slippers 2 with stretchable bands of elastic material 1 connecting the two shoes. The elastic is sewn into the footwear between the sole and insole of the shoe, so that it cannot be removed. The footwear is worn during exercises to stimulate blood flow through the legs, particularly during long periods of sitting. This is particularly intended for use during exercises to prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) with the elastic bands providing tension and resistance.

Description
Title: DVT exercise slippers
Name: DeVoTe
Background: This invention relates to slippers with elastic attachments, which encourages and assists exercise when in a fixed position for a lengthy time.
Flights: During long-haul flights when you are sitting for long periods of time, you are encouraged to perform regular lower leg exercises, to improve circulation. Various stretching exercises can help to stimulate blood flow through the legs and aid leg muscles, which can become stiff as a result of long periods of sitting. Without an aid, travellers can easily forget to carryout exercises, or those who remember, may only do so at the beginning of the flight or not periodically as advised.
Limited mobility: Individuals who have restricted mobility due to injury, disability, illness, or weight problems, are encouraged to exercise to promote good health and improve circulation. Where individuals are unable to perform exercises standing up, the slippers will assist and encourage exercise whilst in a seated position.
Elderly: Where elderly people are seated in the same position for a longtime, reducing the use of foot and calf muscles; regular leg movement needs to be encouraged, to reduce the risk of deep-vein thrombosis or other serious complications.
Statement of invention: To overcome these issues, the present invention proposes a pair of slippers connected by elastic, which encourages the wearer to carryout exercise of the lower leg muscles.
Advantages
1. It is comfortable and easy to put on.
2. It is light weight and can be easily carried in hand luggage.
3. It encourages and assists immobilised elderly people with exercise.
4. It encourages and assists periodic exercise whilst on a long haul flight.
5. Exercise can be done with minimal disturbance to other passengers.
6. Can be worn with flight compression socks.
A description of the drawings
Figure 1 shows: Shows how the elastic will be attached to the slipper.
1) Elastic
2) Slipper
It also shows the position of the first exercise: Toes should be pointed toward the head so that the calves of your legs are stretched, then relaxed.
Figures 2: In this exercise the legs are moved outward and inward.
Figure 3: In this exercise the feet are lifted and toes are moved in circular motions. They are moved clockwise and counter clockwise at the same time.
Figure 4: Here the legs are moved forward and backwards simultaneously.
Figure 5: This diagram shows the legs being lifted up and down alternatively.
Detailed description
The slippers are attached to each other by elastic (1). The elastic is sown between the sole and insole, to ensure that the slippers do not became detached from each other. Soft padded lining will be used to ensure that the slippers are comfortable whilst in use. The elastic is flexible, enabling the wearer to carryout exercise. When used, there is some tension on the elastic (tension). The slippers are slip on, making them easy to put on and take off in a confined space; but they are elasticated at the top to ensure that they stay on whilst in motion.
