Abstract

A kit comprising a pregnancy test, an ovulation test and a gestational age test. The kit may use lateral flow strips and readers and a card with a Near Field Communication (NFC) tag that communicates with a smart device application. The smart device application can be set to a mode relevant to one of the three tests to present information relating to the lateral flow strip being used and the result of that test. The results can be stored locally in the mobile application or on a cloud server.

Title
Reusable, affordable and sustainable Pregnancy, Ovulation and Gestational Age test Kit.
Background
This invention is about how a woman can test for pregnancy or ovulation or find out her gestational age at home using her smart phone.
However there are currently many pregnancy and ovulation test kits available on the market, this particular invention brings in a modern way of performing those tests, allowing a more affordable and more sustainable way of manufacturing the test kits.
Statement of Invention
This invention provides a modern, unique and sustainable way for monitoring a woman ovulation cycle, for testing for pregnancy and for checking for gestational age.
The suggested invention proposes to leverage existing mobile phone capabilities by using a mobile phone application for performing the test and for reading and displaying the test results.
The mobile phone needs to support low-energy wireless technologies such as Near Field Communication (NFC) and placed close to the supplied card which has an embedded passive NFC tag and an embedded set of lateral flow readers, allowing to read data from the removable Lateral-Flow test strips immersed into urine.
Advantages
- The test kit can be stored and re-used over and over again for many years.
- There is no need for battery in the test kit as the smart phone will remotely power the kit via NFC.
- The screen of the smart-phone is used for displaying the test results.
- More sustainable as the only component that need to be replaced is the set of Lateral-Flow strips.
- The test kit is generic as well as the mobile application. Depending on the set of strips attached, the kit and the software will switch into either “Pregnancy Test” mode, or “Ovulation Cycle Test” mode or “Gestational Age” mode. The user could also be offered to choose which tests she want to perform.
- This is a three-in-one test kit and could be manufactured as one kit or three separate kits depending on commercial need.
- The collected test data could be kept on the phone or sent to a remote cloud server and used for plotting historical and statistical graphs over the years.
Introduction to drawing
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings:
- Figure 1 shows the whole system working together
- Figure 2 show a section of the NFC card along with is associated components.
Detailed Description
- This invention does not specify the nature of the lateral-flow stripes (4). These could be stripes for any or a combination of any of the following hormones: HCG, LH, FSH, Oestrogen, Progesterone, and more.
- All components of the test kits are generic including the mobile application (2).
- Depending on the set of strips (4) inserted in the cavity (9), the kit will switch into either “Pregnancy Test” mode, or “Ovulation Cycle Test” mode or “Gestational Age” mode.
- Alternatively, the interactive mobile application (2) will allow the end user to choose which tests she want to perform.
- The interactive mobile application (2) will be guiding the end user through the test process.
- A smart phone (1) is placed near the card in the size of credit card (3).
- In the card (3) is embedded a passive NFC tag (6).
- The embedded passive NFC tag (6) is connected to a set of embedded lateral flow readers (8) via an electric circuit (7).
- The set of removable Lateral-Flow stripes (4) are inserted, in the cavity (9) in such a way that the control lines and test lines of the Lateral-Flow stripes (4) are facing the lateral flow readers (8).
- Following instructions from the mobile application (2), the lateral flow stripes (4) are then immersed into urine.
- The mobile application (2) running on the smart phone phone (1) then powers the passive embedded NFC tag (6) and monitor the progress of the test.
- The mobile application (2) then detects that all measurement has been done by using the embedded NFC tag (6) and the lateral flow reader (8).
- The mobile application (2) then translates the reading into human friendly information such as “two weeks pregnant”, or “Just Ovulated” etc.
- The result is then stored in the mobile application (2) or on a remote server in the cloud (5) for future use.
