Hand-wheels. - Steering wheel and other hand-wheels are made by cutting from sheetmetal or other circular blanks pieces 2 to form radial or other spokes 3, and by pressing, rolling, or otherwise forming the periphery 1 into a hollow rim 5, which may be filled with any suitable substance. The centre is formed with one or more holes 4, or is shaped to accommodate a fitting, for attachment to the steering-pillar &c. The sheet may be conically or spherically dished, and the finished wheel may be nickel plated, varnished, enamelled, lacquered, or covered with ebonite. &c.
