Description

Covet Means and Method of Use Thereof
The present invention relates to covers for bags and in particular urine bags or catheter bags.
Although the following invention refers exclusively to cover means for urine bags, the person skilled in the art will appreciate that the present invention can be used for other bags such as colostomy bags and/or the like.
Catheterisation of patients is a common procedure during the medical treatment of patients. Unfortunately, the bag and the contents thereof are particularly unsightly.
Many patients hide the bag under their clothing by securing the same to their leg. However, in many cases this is simply not practical or possible. In addition, concealing the bag under clothing can be unhygienic and stain clothing if the bag leaks.
Furthermore, emptying the bag can be a cumbersome process wherein clothing has to be removed and the bag detached from the leg.
It is therefore an aim of the present invention to provide a cover means that addresses the abovementioned problems.
It is a further aim of the present invention to provide a method of using a cover means that addresses the abovementioned problems.
It is a yet further aim of the present invention to provide a method of manufacturing a cover means that addresses the abovementioned problems.
In a first aspect of the invention there is provided a cover means suitable for at least partially concealing a urine bag, said cover means including at least a front surface and a rear surface configured to provide a compartment or slot substantially between the same to receive at least part of the urine bag in use wherein said cover means includes at least one attachment member and/or at least one stand means.
Thus the two surfaces of the cover means form a compartment, cavity, slot, pouch and/or the like into which at least part of a bag can be inserted in use to conceal the same. The cover means and/or the bag can then be hung from an article or frame using the attachment member and/or located on a surface using the stand means.
Typically the attachment member is any one or any combination of hook, catch, hanger, peg and/or the like to enable the cover means, and/or the bag located inside the same to be hung on a bed frame, stand, trolley and/or the like. Further typically the attachment member is a hook which depends from a surface of the cover means such that the cover means and/or bag can be located on a frame, stand, trolley and/or the like.
In one embodiment the stand means includes at least one leg member. Typically the leg member is movable between a first in use condition and a second storage condition. Further typically the leg member is pivotally or hingedly connected to a surface of the cover means.
In one embodiment the leg member forms an acute angle with at least the rear surface of the cover means when in the first in-use configuration. Typically the leg member is parallel with, and/or substantially flush with at least part of the rear surface when in the second storage condition. Further typically the leg member is in the second storage condition when the cover means is hung on a bed frame, stand and/or the like.
In one embodiment the stand means includes a retaining member. Typically the retaining member is hingedly or pivotally connected to the cover means. Further typically the retaining member is movable between a first in use position and a second storage position.
In one embodiment the retaining member is located substantially between at least part of the leg member and a surface of the cover means in at least the first condition or position. Typically the retaining member is substantially elongate and/or linear member. Further typically the retaining member depends from the rear surface of the cover means and engages with at least part of the leg member when in the first in use configuration, thereby preventing the leg member from moving.
In one embodiment the retaining member is substantially located between the rear surface of the cover means and the leg member thereby forming an A-frame when in at least the first in use position.
In one embodiment the leg member includes an aperture or recess into which part of the retaining member can be inserted thereby engaging the same together.
In one embodiment the leg portion is substantially U shaped. Typically the leg portion includes hinges at the ends of the arms of the U.
In one embodiment the cover means includes a handle portion. Typically the handle portion is an aperture in a surface of the cover means such that a person can carry the cover means and/or the bag by hand.
In one embodiment the front and rear surfaces are detachably attached to one another. Typically the front surface can be removed or detached to the rear surface.
In one embodiment the front surface is substantially curved and/or includes side walls such that a compartment is formed. Typically a compartment is formed when the front surface is engaged with the rear surface, thereby forming a back to the compartment.
In a second embodiment of the invention there is provided a cover means for a bag in use, said cover means including at least a first and second surfaces, wherein at least part of a surface is configured to provide a cavity or compartment for the location of said bag in use.
Preferably at least the first and second cover means are engaged together by one or more engagement formations. Typically the engagement formations include any one or any combination of fastenings, clips, hooks, loops, apertures and/or the like.
In one embodiment at least part of the cover means is formed from plastics material. Typically the cover means is formed from moulded plastics material.
In one embodiment the cover means includes one or more support members to support or secure the bag in position in use. Typically the support members include any one or any combination of clips, hooks, loops, closures, apertures and/or the like
In a third aspect of the invention there is provided a method of using a cover means, said cover means including at least a front surface and a rear surface configured to provide a compartment or slot substantially between the same to receive at least part of the urine bag in use wherein said cover means includes at least one attachment member and/or at least one stand means wherein said method includes the steps of placing at least part of the bag in the compartment.
Typically the cover means and bag is attached to a frame such as a stand or bed frame using the attachment member. Further typically the cover means and bag can be stood on or mounted to a surface using said stand means.
In a fourth aspect of the invention there is provided a method of manufacturing a cover means, including at least a front surface and a rear surface configured to provide a compartment or slot substantially between the same to receive at least part of the urine bag in use wherein said cover means includes at least one attachment member and/or at least one stand means and said method includes the step of moulding at least part of the cover means from plastics material.
Specific embodiment of the invention are now described with reference to the following figures wherein;
Figure 1 shows a front perspective view of a cover means in accordance with one embodiment of the invention;
Figure 2 shows a rear perspective view of a cover means in accordance with one embodiment of the invention; and
Figure 3 shows a front view of a rear surface of a cover means in accordance with one embodiment of the invention.
The examples shown herein concern a urine bag cover that incorporates a stand so that the bag and cover can be stood on a surface such as the floor/ground, table and/or the like. Additionally, the cover includes means so the same can be hung from a bed frame or other structure.
Figure 1 shows a cover means 2 constructed primarily from moulded plastics material. The cover means comprises a substantially planar rear surface 4 and a curved front surface 6 which at least partially defines a cavity or compartment 8 for location of the bag by insertion of the same into the top of the compartment 8. The cover means 2 includes an aperture which forms a handle 10 so that the cover and bag can be carried by the user. The rear surface 4 also includes support members 12 in the form of hooks so that the bag can be suspended from the cover means. The front surface 6 includes an aperture 14 so that the user has a restricted view of the bag to see how full it is.
Turning now to the rear view shown in figure 2, where there is shown the hook member 16 used to hang the bag and cover 2 from a frame, such as a bed frame, in use. In this example however the cover 2 is located on a surface and supported using the stand means 18. The stand means includes a hinged leg portion 20 which is secured in place using a hinged retaining member 22. The leg portion and the hinged retaining member can be moved from the in-use position as shown, to a substantially flat storage condition, parallel or in the same plane as the rear surface 4. This configuration is also used if the cover is to be hung or supported by the hook 16.
Figure 3 shows the rear surface 4 in the second or storage configuration, wherein the rear surface is substantially planar.
In this embodiment the front surface is removable or detachably attached to the rear. This assists primarily in the removal from a full or partially full bag from the cavity. Alternatively the cover can be formed as a single unitary article.
