Making lamps.- In sealing into bulbs mounts of the kind described in Specification 147,293, that is, mounts comprising a stem 18 having a flange 19 and a projecting exhaust tube 20, they are assembled with the flange resting upon the open end of the bulb, as shown in Fig. 5, and the contiguous edges of the flange and the bulb are fused together while rotating the assembly. The bulb 10 is placed in a holder comprising a suction cup 11 connected by a pipe 14<1> to a vacuum pump, and the mount 18 is supported and located, accurately by inserting the exhaust tube 20 into a clamp 26 mounted on a post 25 carried. with the cup 11, by a rotating disc 14. A spring 28 secures the tube 20 in notches 27 'in the clamp. While the fusion is effected by burners 29 the bulb is moved up and down by means of a rack 32 and a hand-operated pinion 31.
