Abstract

A construction panel comprising first and second outer layers, preferably exterior and interior substrates 1.5 and 1.6, an insulated layer, preferable expanded foam 1.4, sandwiched between the two outer layers, the panel having at least one integral feature, which may be conduits 1.3 for routing services such as electrical wiring, fixings for attachment of furniture such as shelves (Fig. 2.0), a window (Fig. 3.0), storage such as a cupboard (Fig. 4.0), lighting such as spotlights (Fig 5.0), heating and cooling pipe work (Fig. 6.0), ventilation conduits (Fig. 7.0) or an energy generation device such as a photovoltaic solar cell. There may be a vertical profiled side member 1.1 allowing attachment to adjacent panels and a horizontal profiled side member 1.2 allowing mating with beams/lintels of a construction, the side members forming a water resistant seal, the horizontal side member having a foam injection port 1.9 and a breather or vent port 1.10. The panel may form part of a buildings external or internal wall, floor or roof, or an exhibition stand.

Description

MULTIFUNCTIONAL PANEL SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
Panel system either manufactured as a Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) or laminated with substrates and insulated interior, with or without a containing framework for panel sides. Features of the panels described herein in relation to one embodiment of the panel may be incorporated into one or more of the other embodiments described herein. For example, the integral heating and cooling may be incorporated into the integral lighting panel and/or the integral furniture fixings panel. The features include: 1. Integral Conduits
Integral conduits for routing of building services, such as; power & networking cables, plumbing & drainage pipework, heating & ventilation, etc. 2. Integral fixings for furniture
Integral fixings for fastening, securing & suspending furniture or other items (e.g. paintings). 3. Integral Window
Integral aperture for window, skylight or view-port. 4. Integral Storage
Integral storage space, equipment cupboard, display cabinet, or service hatch. 5. Integral Lighting
Integral lighting to form ambient lighting, spotlights, back -illumination or other special lighting effects on either the interior, exterior or on both surfaces. 6. Integral Heating & Cooling
Integral pipework to allow for the passage of warm water for underfloor and 'warm-walls’ or coolant for refrigeration. Or electric heating mats, or thick film resistive coatings, as an alternative heating method. 7. Integral Ventilation
Integral conduit & pipework to allow for ventilation, warm-air heating, air conditioning with optional heat-exchanger (heat-recovery) pump. 8. Energy Generation
External substrate comprising of photo-voltaic, or alternative solar cell technology, to convert solar energy into direct current electricity.
Panels are capable of being either installed into a structural framework or linked directly together using panel fixings, bolts or cams to form a water resistant seal.
Panels are combined to produce external buildings, such as home-offices, studios and garden rooms, or internal rooms such as cold-stores, temporary offices in an warehouse or industrial building or even exhibition stands.

Multifunctional Panel comprising; foam interior and structural and/or decorative substrate to inner and outer surfaces to form an integral window, skylight or view-port.
Panel comprises of different sizes of glass, one large sheet to form the panel exterior, and one smaller sheet to form the 'double glazed' window, to give a flush, featureless appearance on the panel exterior.

FEATURES
Multifunctional Panel comprising; foam interior and structural and/or decorative substrate to inner and outer surfaces with integral pipework to allow for the passage of warm water for underfloor and ‘warm-walls' or coolant for refrigeration. A conductive substrate acts to increase transfer of heat/cooling from pipes and may be perforated, to allow foam to pass though substrate and bond to interior substrate when using the SIP construction process.
Surface materials include; High Pressure Laminate (HPL) either thin or solid, Wooden sheets (MDF, OSB, Plywood, etc.) either painted or vinyl covered, metal sheets (steel, aluminium etc.), plastic sheet (PVC, acrylic etc.), and glass. 6.1 Panel Side - Vertical 6.2 Panel Side - Horizontal 6.3 Insulation

Structural and/or decorative substrate of various thicknesses and materials. Typically wooden substrate for floors that may be covered with additional finished surfaces, e.g. laminate flooring for floors or ceramic tiles for walls and floors. Optional if used with ‘floating floors’.
Typically powder coated steel for walls in refrigerated rooms or cold stores. 6.6 Pipework
Pipework to allow the flow of warm water, from a boiler or other heating source, or to allow the flow of coolant from a compressor or refrigeration unit. 6.7 Conductive Substrate
Conductive substrate to increase transfer of heating/cooling from pipework. Conductive substrate may be perforated for use with SIP construction process.
Alternatively, pipework (6.6) and conductive substrate (6.7) may be replaced with electric underfloor heating mats, or thick film resistive coating on glass, as an alternative heating method.

Claims (6)

Claims
1. A construction panel comprising: a first outer layer; a second outer layer; and an insulated interior layer sandwiched between the two outer layers, wherein the panel comprises a feature selected from a list comprising: integrally mounted conduits within the insulated interior layer for the routing of services; integral fixings within at least one outer layer for the attachment of furniture; integral storage; integral lighting; integral heating and/or cooling; integral ventilation; and integral energy generating.
2. A construction panel according to claim 1, wherein the panel comprises a plurality of features selected from the group of claim 1.
3. A building comprising at least one panel according to claim 1 or claim 2.
4. A building according to claim 3, wherein the panel is employed as an internal wall, floor or ceiling.
5. A building according to claim 3, wherein the panel is employed as an external wall, floor or roof.
6. An exhibition stand comprising at least one panel according to claim 1 or claim 2.
