Cleaning internally.-A fire-tube is cleaned by inserting a guide tube d Fig. 1, through a perforation in the end plate of the box b at one end of the boiler so that the guide tube fits the end of the fire tube to be cleaned, and pushing through the fire tube and guide tube a cleaning tool e, Fig. 3, carried by a flexible rod h which makes an angle with the guide tube so that it is not necessary to provide any considerable clearance at the end of the boiler.
