Abstract

252,734. W³rker Ges. May 29, 1925, [Convention date]. Cards and the like, punching.-A machine for reproducing perforated pattern strips or cards comprises a guide-frame 1 - - 3, Fig. 3, mounted for vertical sliding movement in a frame M by means of pins 4, 5 controlled by springs 6, 12. The original strip O and the blank V are fed over the guide-plates, 2, 3 by pins 16, 17 on a horizontally-reciprocating feed-bar 23, which works in slots in the guide-plates. Upper guide plates 11, 13 are variably pressed by springs 12, 15 on the strips in accordance with the position of the guide-frame. The springs 15 act upon a punch guide-block 14 en the plate 13, lugs on which impinge on frame-blocks A to raise the plate 13 slightly when the feed is to take place. The guide-frame carries a roller 7 supported on or positively controlled by a cam disc 9, which also actuates a lever 24 to reciprocate the feedbar 23. The feed-bar is supported by a lever 27 which has pin-and-slot engagement 21, 23 with an arm thereon and is normally held by a spring 29 against a stop 30. The lever 27 can be thrown over against the stop 31 to lower the pins 16, 17 and allow the strips to be changed. Platens 32 are slidably mounted in the frame M above the original strip, and carry pins 33, which register with holes in the guide-plates 2, 11. Punches 37 are slidably mounted in the block 14 and have hooked upper ends, which take over a stop-bar 38 on the frame. Starting from the position shown in Fig. 3, rotation of the cam 9 first shifts the feed-bar to the left to feed the strips forward; the cam then raises the guide-frame, so that the pins 16, 17 are disengaged from the strips and the platens are either raised by the strip or pass through the holes therein. Further rotation of the cam shifts the feed-bar to the left again so that a locking-bar 44 carried thereby engages between upper and lower inclined surfaces 40, 41, Fig. 7, on the stationary and raised platens to lock the former against rising. The guide-frame is again raised so that the locked platens force the corresponding punches 37 through the rising strip V, Fig. 9, and perforate it in accordance with the strip O. The feed-bar is returned to its original position and the guideframe is then lowered, a bar 36, carried by the guide-frame and the stop-bar 38 returning the platens and punches respectively to their original positions. The machine punches the marginal perforations as well as the pattern-holes. To allow for wear in the marginal perforations of the strip 0, the pin 16 is adjustable on the feedbar.
