Abstract

The device of the present invention improves the thermal efficiency of a tenement living room by reducing the volume using a horizontally extending and retracting insulating sheet material 2. The sheet material may be stored within a compartment 1 attached to a wall and released and extended along guide rails 5. The compartment may have closed (figure 2) and open (figure 3) configurations for stored and released configurations of the sheet material. The guide rails may be positioned above and adjacent to picture rails (4, figure 5) positioned on the walls of the room.

Description

Room volume reducer br Ihe purpose of increased heal perlormance in tenement living rooms.
This invenlion is a device lhal reduces lhe volume of a room wilhin a lenement flat.
High ceilinged domeslic living spaces such as lenement living rooms have a large volume ol space which creales a problem wilh regards 10 thermal etliciency.
The heighls ol lenement ceilings can be up lo and in excess ol three and a half metres. These ceiling heighls combined wilh large lloor plans create room volumes thaI can be dillicull to heat via modern central healing syslems and while possible can prove costly br lhe inhabitanl. Al the lime of conslruclion coal lire conlinuous healing was envisaged as the means of creating comborl ihrough warmlh. In order lo overcome Ihe problem Ihis invenlion seeks lo reduce the ceiling height via an inhabilant conlrolled lemporary volume reducer which consisls ol a thermally resislanl sheet material contained wilhin a compartmenl and when in use drawn oul along guide rails to creale a smaller volume of space which can be healed more ellicienlly. I he syslem can be mounled at any heighl above the doorframe of Ihe room.
The invenlion will now be described with relerence to Ihe accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows Ihe housing compartment opened, where Ihe insulaling sheet material is slored when nol in use, and Irom which il extends brom when it is.
Figure 2 shows a seclion view ol Ihe closed housing compartmenl wilh insulaling sheet material inside.
Figure 3 shows a seclion view ol Ihe housing comparlmenl opened wilh insulaling sheel malerial released.
Figure 4 shows a one-poinl perspeclive view ol a portion ol both guide rail and piclure rail separaled.
Figure 5 shows guide rail and piclure rail combined in section.
Figure 6 shows a seclion view ol Ihe housing comparlmenl opened wilh sheet material exlended along guide rail wilh heighl ol Iloor and ceiling included giving conlexi.
Figure 7 shows a one point perspective view ol a parlly extended volume reducer.
Figure 8 show a plan view of Ihe sheel malerial fully extended enclosing Ihe lull space benealh In tigure 1, a housing compartment us shown in the torm ot a cuboid which crosses the entire width of the wall on which ii is mounted. The compartment is opened from one side only.
In tigure 2, the housing compartment I is shown in section with thermally resistant sheel malerial stored inside.
In tigure 3, the housing compartment 1 is shown in section opened with insulating sheet material 2 released.
In tigure 4, the guide rail 3 along which the sheet material travels is shown in perspective. Beneath is a perspective ol the picture rail 4 on which the guide rail is attacheft In tigure 5, bolh guide rail and picture rail are shown 5 combined showing a sectional view.
In tigure 6, a sectional view of housing compartment I with sheet material partly stored and partly extended 2 is shown travelling along the combined guide and picture railS.
In tigure 7, a one point perspective view ot the Room volume reducer tor the purpose ot increased heal pertormance is shown consisting ot opened housing compartment 1 partially extended insulating sheet material 2 travelling along combined guide and picture railS.
In tigure 8, a plan view ot the tully extended room volume reducer br the purpose ot increased heat performance is shown to tully seal the space underneath consisting of opened housing compartment I fully extended insulating sheet material 2 traversing combined guide and picture railS creating a reduced volume ot space within an inhabitants living space which is now more thermally etticient because ot the insulating sheet material combined with its guide rails torming a seal which encloses warm that has been generated by a heating system.
