Closure members, double beats ; regulating rate of flow by throttling devices.-A safety valve particularly adapted for use with very high pressures has the valve seat 1 formed with a coned spigot 2 disposed in register with a recess 3 in the valvemember 4 within the area surrounded by the seating surfaces 5, 7. The valve member has a spigot 6 which enters the valve opening and is arranged so that when the valve is open the gap between the seating faces is a multiple of that between the spigots.
