Abstract
A television timer remote control diverts viewing away from commercial breaks by re-tuning the television receiver to another channel for a set period of time. It may include a row of six countdown timer buttons 1, for allowing the television receiver to be tuned to another channel for a pre-determined amount of time so as to avoid commercials or advertisement breaks. A row of six programmable channel select buttons 2 may be used to store suitable channels that broadcast little or no commercial breaks and which can be viewed in preference to the commercials. A cancel button 3, may cancel a timer function. An LCD countdown timer display 4 shows the current status of the timer function when a countdown timer button I, is pressed. Self adhesive labels 5, may identify what channel is stored in each of the six programmable channel select buttons 2.
Description
Television Remote Control Timer
Background
This invention relates to a timer controlled television remote control.
Whilst watching an independent TV channel, the viewer is presented with numerous commercial breaks throughout the programmes. To try and avoid the advertisements, some viewers, may, if they wish channel hop'. This is (via their remote control) selecting different channel, to try and avoid viewing the current and, sometimes, other simultaneously broadcast commercial breaks.
This can provoke guess-work' as the viewer (whilst watching another channel) will often, try and judge when a commercial break has ended on the desired channel he was originally watching. This can involve pressing buttons repeatedly on the remote control to select back and forth between various channels.
Statement of Invention
To overcome this the present invention, will include, (in addition to all the normal function buttons a television remote control provides).
A row of six count-down timer buttons: 30 second, 1 minute, 2 minutes; 3 minutes, 4 minutes and 5 minutes.
A row of six programmable channel select buttons which can be programmed to any channel. (Channels that do not broadcast commercial breaks would be an ideal choice).
An LCD countdowi-i tinier display that will inform the viewer of the current status of the countdown timer buttons. (Example, if the 4-minute timer button is pressed, the display will countdown from 4 minutes to zero).
A cancel button this will cancel a started timer function, and the television receiver will remain on the channel currently being viewed.
Advantages The Television Remote Control Timer, along with its 6 timer buttons and 6 programmable channel select buttons will take much of the guesswork out of avoiding commercial breaks. The television receiver, will require absolutely no modification in anyway whatsoever.
Introduction to thawing
The enclosed drawing of a television remote control will provide detail on how to operate the device.
To program the six programmable channel select buttons 2 simply tune the television to the desired channel and hold-down one of the six programmable channel select buttons 2 for approx 10 seconds, that channel will now be stored in that button. Repeat as necessary.
Self adhesive labels 5 will help identify what channel is programmed into each of the six programmable channel select buttons 2.
1-low to use. Example: The viewer will be watching a television programme, when it gets to a commercial break, he will press the 4-minute countdown timer button 1.
The television receiver will re-tune to a channel stored in one of the 6 programmable channel select buttons 2 and stay on that channel for 4 minutes. The viewer cancheck how much of the 4 minutes has elapsed by viewing the LCD countdown timer display 4 if he wishes.
After 4 minutes the television receiver will automatically re-tune to the channel he was previously watching.
If during that 4 minutes the viewer decides the programme he/she is now watching is of more interest, than the programme he/she was previously watching, the viewer can then press the cancel button 3 the timer function will stop, and the current channel will remain.
For the remote to work correctly, it must be pointed towards the television receiver at all times.
