The bag comprises a plurality of pockets 14-18 wherein said pockets are individually labelled by indicia adapted to indicate the type of item that the pocket is adapted to house. Some of the fabric in the bag may be treated with an organosilicon quaternary ammonium compound such as 3-Trimethoxy silyl propyl dimethyl octadecyl ammonium chloride for its biocidal properties. The pockets can be adapted to house a feeding bottle or a changing mat and may be insulated.
Description
Improvements in Bags The present invention relates to improvements in bags. More particularly the present invention relates to improvements in baby accessory bags.
Transporting a number of items required to meet the needs of a young child or baby in a conventional bag provides various problems. Bags typically have a main chamber for housing any large items, and may also have smaller subsidiary pockets located within such a chamber or accessible from the outside of the bag.
However, given the large number of different items required to meet the needs of a baby often a parent is required to mix the items together in the main chamber. This can lead to unnecessary delays and difficulties owing to time spent attempting to locate required items.
Furthermore, owing to the mixing of paraphernalia, items that could be pose health-risks to a baby such soiled clothing or nappies may contaminate other items that it is desirable to keep clean, such as a dummy, feeding bottles or wipes.
The present invention seeks to address these issues.
According to the present invention there is provided a baby accessory bag having a main chamber defined in part by two side panels wherein the bag comprises a plurality of pockets wherein said pockets are individually labelled by indicia adapted to indicate the type of item that the pocket is adapted to house.
The provision of indicia adapted to indicate the type of item that the pocket is adapted to house firstly allows for a user of the bag to rapidly locate an item stored therein, and further allows for a user to readily separate items that may be unclean, such as soiled clothing, from items that may demand cleanliness, such as a dummy.
Preferably the indicia are graphical representations of the type of item that the pocket is adapted to house.
The provision of graphical representations allows for a user to most rapidly understand the purpose of each pocket and does not limit the bags use to a person that speaks a particular language.
Preferably the bag comprises a main chamber that houses a plurality of pockets.
In some embodiments the main chamber is split into two sub-chambers by a central pocket extending across the chamber. Preferably the central pocket is sealable with a zip.
Preferably the bag comprises a plurality of subsidiary central pockets formed on the central pocket. Preferably the bag comprises a plurality of subsidiary central pockets formed on each side of the central pocket.
Preferably the main chamber comprises at least one main side pocket extending across a side panel. Preferably the main chamber comprises a main side pocket extending across each respective side panel.
Preferably the bag comprises a plurality of subsidiary side pockets formed on each side panel. Preferably the subsidiary side pockets are inside the main chamber.
In some embodiments the indicia may be provided on labels attached to the bag.
In some embodiments the indicia may be printed on the bag.
Preferably the bag comprises a changing mat.
Preferably the bag comprises a pocket adapted to house a feeding bottle.
Preferably the pocket is adapted to snugly house a feeding bottle. Preferably said pocket is insulated.
The provision of an insulated pocket allows for cold or hot drinks to be maintained at a desired temperature for longer, which is of particular importance with children.
In some embodiments at least part of the fabric from which the interior of the main chamber is formed has biocidal properties.
In some embodiments at least part of the fabric from which an interior of a pocket is formed has biocidal properties.
Preferably a plurality of pockets comprise fabric having biocidal properties.
The provision of a biocidal lining in at least some of the bag allows for items such as a dummy stored therein to be at least partially disinfected by contact with the bag.
In some embodiments the fabric having biocidal properties is fabric treated with an organosilicon quaternary ammonium compound. A preferred biocide is 3-Trimethoxy silyl propyl dimethyl octadecyl ammonium chloride.
The use of such a biocide means that the biocidal properties of the fabric do not deteriorate and means that the fabric is also harmless to humans.
The present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, of which: Figure 1 is a plan view into a bag made in accordance with the present invention; and Figure 2 is a schematic flat plan view of the interior of the bag of Figure 1.
Referring to Figures 1 and 2, a bag 1 has a main chamber 2 defined by side walls 3a, 3b and base 4. Main chamber 2 is divided into two parts by a central pocket 5 that extends across main chamber 2 between ends 6a, 6b of bag 1.
Central pocket 5 may be opened and closed by means of zip fastening 7.
Central pocket 5 comprises on its side in chamber part 2a subsidiary central pockets 10, 11, and comprises on its sidewall in chamber part 2b subsidiary central pockets 12, 13.
Side walls 3a, 3b each comprise a respective main side pocket 8a, 8b, which may be opened and closed by means of respective zip fastenings 9a, 9b.
Side wall 3a comprises in chamber part 2a subsidiary side pockets 14, 15.
Side wall 3b comprises in chamber part 2b subsidiary side pockets 16, 17, 18.
In the present embodiment each of subsidiary pockets 10 to 18 are open at their respective tops and do not have zip closures. In other embodiments such pockets could be provided with any suitable closure mechanism such as press studs or zips.
Each of the pockets are individually labelled by indicia adapted to graphically display an item that the pocket is adapted to house.
Attached to central pocket 5 is label 19 bearing indicia adapted to show a user that central pocket 5 is intended to store items unrelated to childcare, such as a mobile phone or book.
Each of the other pockets also bear indicia. Subsidiary central pocket 13 is also for storage of items not related to childcare, in the present embodiment keys, and subsidiary central pocket 13 therefore bears a label 23 showing a picture of keys.
The remaining pockets are all intended for storage of items relating to childcare.
Subsidiary central pocket 10 bears label 20 indicating that pocket 10 is adapted to store a bottle. Pocket 10 is lined with an insulating material so as to maintain the contents of a bottle stored therein at a desired temperature for as long as possible.
Subsidiary central pocket 11 bears label 21 indicating that pocket 11 is adapted to store a bottle warmer.
Subsidiary central pocket 12 bears label 22 indicating that pocket 12 is adapted to store a dummy.
Subsidiary side pocket 14 bears label 24 indicating that pocket 14 is adapted to store a bottle warmer.
Subsidiary side pocket 15 bears label 25 indicating that pocket 15 is adapted to store medicine.
Subsidiary side pocket 16 bears label 26 indicating that pocket 16 is adapted to store wipes.
Subsidiary side pocket 17 bears label 27 indicating that pocket 17 is adapted to store bibs.
Subsidiary side pocket 18 bears label 28 indicating that pocket 18 is adapted to store nappies.
Main side pocket 8a bears label 29 indicating that pocket Ba is adapted to store clean clothes.
Main side pocket 8a also bears label 31 to indicate that side pocket 8a houses a changing mat (not shown) Main side pocket 8b bears label 30 indicating that pocket 8b is adapted to store dirty clothes.
In the present embodiment pocket 22 is lined adapted for storing a dummy is lined with a fabric that has been treated with a biocide in order to at least partially disinfect a dummy when it is placed therein.
The biocide used in the present embodiment is 3-Trimethoxy silyl propyl dimethyl octadecyl ammonium chloride (AEGIS® AEM 5772/5 as produced by AEGIS Environments). To treat the fabric, it is dipped into a 4% solution of AEM 5772/5, and then heated.
AEM 577215 is particularly efficacious as a biocide. Once fabric has been treated with AEM 5772/5 it remains permanently bonded to it. Thus under normal conditions the biocidal effect does not significantly wear off, and the fabric remains permanently resistant to biodeterioration.
It will be appreciated that in some embodiments other pockets might also be formed from, or lined with, a fabric having a biocidal effect.
In the present embodiment the bag does comprise handles, but these are not shown in the Figures for clarity thereof.
Many variations are possible without departing from the scope of the present invention as set out in the appended claims.
