Abstract
250,712. Rheinische Apparatebau Ges., and Peters, M. Feb. 18, 1925. Tubes.-Seamless rolled tubes are produced by casting in a rotating mould and then rolling the casting, the heat of the casting being sufficient for the subsequent rolling. The mould a rotated by gearing d, f, and partially closed at its lower end by an annulus b receives a charge of molten metal from the ladle h and trough g. The hollow billet i so formed is passed by a conveyer (not shown) to rolling-mechanism k. In a modification a horizontal mould mounted on a truck is employed. The mould may be fitted with closing rings to produce a casting with tapered ends. The tube i passes from the mould along driven conveyer rollers 3, Fig. 9, and is raked by reciprocating arms 9 to conveyer chains 11, whence it passes, if desired, through a soaking pit 12 to the rolling-mill. The conveyer rollers 4 may be adjusted for height by a plunger and cylinder. If the ingot is too hot for rolling, cooling air may be passed through the soaking pit.
