Abstract

A spinning room preparation machine, for example a cleaner, carding machine or the like, for opening and cleaning fibre material, especially cotton, comprises an opening roll 7 arranged downstream of a feed device. The feed device comprises at least one intake roll 3, 4 which defines with the opening roll a transfer point (9, figure 1a). At least two separating blades 11, 12 or separating edges are directed against the direction of rotation of the opening roll and a guide element 13 is arranged upstream of the second separating blade 12. The first separating blade 11 is adjustable in a direction tangential relative to the periphery of the roll 7 to adjust the spacing of the blade from the transfer point (9). Tangential adjustment advantageously means that the spacing between the transfer point (9) and the separating element is increased or decreased by a greater amount than the spacing between the separating element and the periphery of the opening roll 7. The adjustment may be made by manual or motor operation of a rack and pinion (19, 20, figure 2).

Description

Device on a spinning room preparation machine, for example a cleaner, carding machine or the like, for opening and cleaning fibre material The invention relates to a devioe on a spinning room preparation machine, for example a cleaner, carding machine or the like, for opening and cleaning fibre material, especially cotton.
In certain known arrangements, an opening roll is arranged downstream of a feed device comprising at least one intake roll and with which there are associated at least two separating blades or separating edges for impurities. The blades or edges are directed against the direction of rotation and have associated separating openings, wherein -seen in the direction of rotation of the opener roll -a first separating blade that is adjustable relative to the periphery of the roll is provided and a guide element is arranged upstream of a second separating blade.
Separating blades for waste, trash or dust are used in carding machines and cleaners. On cleaners, such blades are used in conjunction with sawtooth rolls. On carding machines, the blades are used at lickers-in and also at the cylinder (drum) and are used in conjunction with extraction hoods or tubes, the extraction hoods having the task of transporting away particles of trash, short fibres and dust separated by the blade in the air stream. Such blades are set in a stationary position, that is to say the location of the blade, the spacing of the blade tip relative to the roll (cylinder) and the angular position of the blade's separating flank relative to the tangent of the cylinder are constant during operation of the machines. A disadvantage is that modifying those setting parameters is often very difficult and therefore can be effected only when the machine is stationary. The spacing of the blade edge (tip) relative to the sawtooth clothing on the licker-fri can be, for example, between 0.2 and 0.6 mm depending upon the fibre material being processed. The setting of the spacing is effected manually when the machine is stationary using a so-called spacing gauge. It is often desirable to adjust the blade in order to adapt to different materials, especially different contents and types of contaminants.
In a known device (EP 0 952 244 A) the first separating blade is mounted on a holding element and its spacing relative to the circle of tips (periphery) of the needle clothing is set in accordance with the requirements of the carding process, the separating blade being arranged at an angle relative to the tangent to the circle of tips. A disadvantage is that the spacing is set in the direction towards the opening roll. In the case of a relatively large spacing there is an undesirable increase in the proportion of good fibres in the waste. A further problem is that the first separating blade is set in a fixed position during operation, which can also increase the proportion of good fibres in the waste.
It is an aim of the invention to provide a device of the known kind that avoids or mitigates the mentioned disadvantages, wherein in particular the degree of separation of foreign bodies (degree of cleaning) is improved The invention provides a device on a spinning room preparation machine for opening and cleaning fibre material, having a clothed opening roll having an outer envelope defined by clothing tips of the opening roll clothing, the opening roll being arranged downstream of a feed device comprising at least one intake roll that forms a transfer point with the opening roll, the device further comprising first and second separating blades for impurities, which blades are directed against the direction of rotation of the opening roll and have associated separating openings, wherein said first separating blade is arranged upstream, in the direction of rotation of the opening roll, relative to said second separating blade and a guide element is arranged downstream of said first separating blade and upstream of said second separating blade, wherein said first separating blade has a blade edge which serves to define a spacing between said blade and said transfer point and can be displaced substantially tangentially with respect to the outer envelope of the opening roll whereby the said spacing is adjustable.
As a result of the measures taken according to the invention, in the event of a change in the fibre material being processed it is possible to achieve optimum separation in a simple way before and during operation. The displacement advantageously takes place while the machine is in operation, because by monitoring the separation or by measuring the separated flow it is possible to effect exact and reproducible separation.
According to the invention, it is advantageously made possible to adjust the spacing of the blade relative to the transfer point (working point) . The linear adjustment of the first separating blade is effected tangentially with respect to the opening roll.
Adaptation to different fibre materials and contaminants is possible. In particular, optimisation of the proportion of good fibres in the waste and optimisation of the degree of cleaning are achieved.
The spinning room preparation machine is advantageously, although not essentially, a cleaner, carding machine or the like. Preferably the machine is for processing cotton.
Advantageously, the first separating blade is linearly displaceable. Advantageously, the first separating blade is displaceable in the direction of the intake roll. Advantageously, the spacing of the blade edge of the first separating blade relative to the transfer point is adjustable by the displacement device.
Advantageously, the first separating blade co-operates with a linear displacement device. In certain embodiments, the displacement device is drivable, for example by a motor. In other embodiments, the displacement device is manually drivable.
Advantageously, the displacement device allows stepless adjustment. Advantageously, in the case of motor adjustment, optimisation can be effected during prcducticn. Advantageously, the drive device for the displacement device is connected to an electronic open- loop and closed-loop control device which allows auto-matic adjustment of the optimum waste composition.
Advantageously, the first separating blade is mounted on a carrier element.
Preferably, the guide element is spaced apart frcm the opener roll. Advantageously, the spacing of the guide element relative to the opener roll is adjustable by means of an adjusting device. Advantageously, the guide element is at its rear end -seen in the direction of rotation of the opener roll-articulated on a pivot joint.
Advantageously, a separating opening is provided between the free end of the guide element and the second separating blade. Advantageously, the at least cne intake rcll has a lcw circumferential speed.
Advantageously, the opening roll has a high circumferential speed. It is preferred that the circumferential speed of the opening roll be higher than the circumferential speed of the intake roll.
Advantageously, two intake rolls are provided. In a preferred arrangement the intake rcll cr intake rcll pair is provided at the lower end of a feed shaft.
Advantageously, at the lower end of the feed shaft there is provided a 4-roll intake unit consisting of two intake rolls and two feed rolls. Tn another advantageous embodiment, the intake roll or intake rolls may be associated with a feed conveyor.
The invention also provides a device on a spinning room preparation machine, for example a cleaner, carding machine or the like, for opening and cleaning fibre material, especially cotton, having an opening roll which is arranged downstream of a feed device comprising at Least one intake roll and with which there are associated at least two separating blades or separating edges for impurities, which blades or edges are directed against the direction of rotation and have associated separating openings, wherein -seen in the direction of rotation of the opener roll -a first separating blade that is adjustable relative to the periphery of the roll is provided and a guide element is arranged upstream of a second separating blade, wherein the first separating blade can be displaced substantially tangentially with respect to the circle of tips of the clothing of the opening roll and the spacing of the blade edge of the first separating blade relative to the transfer point between an intake roll and the opening roll is
adjustable.
Additionally, the invention provides a device on a spinning room preparation machine comprising a clothed opening roll having an outer envelope defined by tips of the opening roll clothing, an intake roll that cooperates with the opening roll to define a fibre transfer point and a separating element comprising a separating edge, the edge being directed against the direction of rotation of the opening roll, wherein the separating edge serves to define a spacing between said separating element and said transfer point and can be displaced substantially along a tangential direction with respect to the outer envelope of the opening roll in the vicinity of said transfer point, whereby the spacing between the separating element and said transfer point is increased or decreased by a greater amount than the increase or decrease in a spacing between the separating edge and the outer envelope of the opening roll. Preferably, the spacing between the separating edge and the outer envelope of the opening roll remains substantially unaltered by said tangential displacement of the separating edge.
Certain embodiments of the invention are described in greater detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a diagrammatic side view of an opening and cleaning device according to the invention, showing a feed device and part of a feed shaft; Fig. ia is a schematic view of two intake rolls and an opener roll having a clamping zone and two transfer points; Fig. lb shows a portion of the opening roil with needles, and also shows the circle of tips of the needles; Fig. 2 shows an embodiment of the invention including the first separating blade with a displacement device, and Fig. 3 is a diagrammatic side view of a device according to the invention on a cleaner, showing a feed device and part of a conveyor belt.
r7jh reference to the drawings, Fig. 1 shows a cleaning machine, for example a CL-U universal cleaner made by Trutzschler GmbH & Co. KG of Manchengladbach, Germany. The Figure does not show the whole length of the feed shaft 1. In the lower part 2 of the feed shaft 1 there is arranged a pair of intake rolls consisting of two intake rolls 3 and 4 which rotate at low speed in the direction of arrows 3a, 4a. Above the intake rolls 3, 4 there are two feed rolls 5 and 6 which rotate at low speed in the directions of arrows 5a, 6a. The intake rolls 3, 4 and the feed rolls 5, 6 form a 4-roll intake unit. The pair of intake rolls 3, 4 forms the base of the feed shaft 1 and feeds fibre material to an opening roll 7 rotating at high speed in the direction of arrow 7a. The two intake rolls 3 and 4 condense the fibre material in a similar way to a funnel and withdraw the fibre material from the lower part 2 of the feed shaft and feed it to the opening roll 7. The pins or needles 7b (see Fig. lb), which are inclined in the direction of rotation 7a, around the periphery of the opening roll 7 catch hold of the fibre material and detach it from the clamping zone 8 (see Fig. la) of the pair of intake rolls 3, 4. The circle of tips 7c of the pins or needles 7b defines an outer envelope of the opening roll 7.
Between the intake roll 3 and the opening roll 7 there is a first transfer point 9 for the fibre material. The intake roll 3 and the opening roll 7 are arranged spaced apart from one another and their directions of rotation 3a and 7a are opposite to one another. Between the intake roll 4 and the opening roll 7 there is a second transfer point 10 and their directions of rotation 4a and 7a are the same as one another.
Seen in the direction of rotation of the opening roll 7, a first separating blade 11 and a second separating blade 12 are associated with the opening roll 7. The first separating blade 11 is displaceable in the direction of arrows A, B substantially tangentially with respect to the circle of tips 7c of the clothing 7b of the opening roll. The spacing a (see Fig. 2) of the blade edge ha of the first separating blade 11 relative to the transfer point 9 between the intake roll 3 and the opening roll 7 is adjustable. The spacing a at the same time denotes the size of the separating opening between the first separating blade 11 and the transfer point 9. Because the displacement is substantially tangential, the adjustment of spacing a is effected whilst there is substantially no change in the spacing between the separating blade 11 and the circle of tips 7c.
Upstream of the second separating blade 12 there is arranged a guide element 13 which is pivotally mounted by one end on a pivot bearing 21, so that the spacing of the guide element 13 relative to the circle of tips 7c of the opening roll 7 is adjustable. Between the free ends of the separating blade 12 and the guide element 13 there is a separating opening 14.
The first separating blade 11 and the second separating blade 12 are mounted on holding profiles 15 and 16, respectively, which are made, for example, from extruded aluminium, and extend over the working width of the machine. Reference numerals 17 and 18 denote extraction hoods for the separated waste.
The first separating blade 11 is mounted on the holding element 15 so as to be displaceable in directions A, B. For that purpose there is associated with the separating blade 11 a toothed rack 19 the teeth of which engage the teeth of a toothed wheel 20. By rotation of the toothed wheel 20 in the directions of arrows C, D the toothed rack 19 and therewith the separating blade 11 are displaced in the direction of arrows A, B. The toothed wheel 20 can be turned in directions C, D by means of a motor (not shown) or manually (in a way not shown) . In the case of motor adjustment, optimisation can be effected during production.
In that way, a linearly adjustable blade system (first separating blade) is provided. As a result, it is possible to effect stepless adjustment of the spacing a relative to the working point (transfer point 9) between the intake unit (intake roll 3) and the beater (opening roll 7) . Further, adjustment of the spacing a can be effected without the spacing of the blade relative to the effective diameter of the roll (spacing of the first separating blade 11 relative to the diameter of the opening roll 7) being significantly altered.
By the use of the adjustable blade system at the first cleaning point (first separating blade 11) and a downstream fin (guide element 13) with a separating blade (second separating blade 12), the proportion of good fibres in the waste is considerably reduced. The degree of cleaning in dependence upon the nature of the fibre material is likewise substantially better influenced.
In the apparatus shown in Fig. 3, an illustrative device according to the invention is mounted on a CL-cl cleaner made by Trbtzschler GmbH & Co. KG of F4önchengladbach, Germany. The cleaner is supplied with the fibre material to be cleaned, which is especially cotton, in flock form. This is effected, for example, by a feed shaft 1 (see Fig. 1) or by a conveyor belt 22 which co-operates with a conveyor roll 23. The cotton lap is supplied by means of a pair of low-speed intake rolls 3, 4 under the clamping action of a high-speed pin roll 7 (diameter, for example, 250 mm) which is rotatably mounted in a housing and rotates counter-clockwise (arrow 7a) . (At least one clothed roll (not shown) having sawtooth clothing can be arranged downstream of the pin roll 7) . Ihe pin roll 7 has a -10 -circumferential speed of, for example, 15 m/sec.
A separating opening 24 for the discharge of fibre impurities is associated with the pin roll 7, the size of which opening is matched or can be matched to the degree of contamination of the cotton. A first separating blade 11 is associated with the separating opening 24, which blade is displaceable in directions A,B.
The mode of operation is as follows: the cotton lap consisting of fibre flocks is supplied by the intake rolls 3, 4 in co-operation with the clamping action of the pin roll 7 which combs the fibre material and takes up fibre clumps on its pins. As the roll 7 passes the separating opening 24 and the first separating blade 11, in accordance with the circumferential speed and curvature of those rolls and the size of the separating opening 24, which size is matched to this first separating stage, short fibres and coarse impurities are expelled from the fibre material by centrifugal force.
Seen in the direction of rotation 7a of the opening roll 7, there is arranged downstream of the first separating blade 11 a second separating blade 12, upstream of which -seen in the direction opposite to the direction of rotation 7a -there is arranged an adjustable guide element 13.
The cleaned fibre material is supplied to a processing machine (not shown) by way of a pneumatic extraction device 25.
Where reference is made in this specification to
"separation blades", it is to be understood that unless the contrary is apparent from the context any element having a separating edge suitable for effecting removal of waste from fibre material on a roller is included.
