Abstract

A planter constructed of a plurality of side panels, being not less than three side panels 1,2, and a further base panel 4, being assembled without any further parts or fixings, by means of hooks 3 at the corners of a number of side panels, and hooks on the sides of the base panel, and when unassembled being capable of flat packing, the planter being able to hold its base panel clear of the ground, and able to support a liner on all sides, whilst allowing air circulation on all sides, thereby allowing improved performance of the liner's air-pruning capabilities.

DESCRIPTION
Background
This invention relates to a planter, which allows several advantages over existing planters. There are various forms of planters, formed in various shapes and from various materials. Planters are used as structures to hold a growing medium in order to grow plants, or as structures to hold a fabric which contains the growing medium. Surmountable problems with existing planters are such as the bulkiness and weight of the units. Furthermore, some planters can be lined with an air-porous fabric, the fabric being able to enhance the development of the roots of the plants, such as in patent application GB1108944.8. Furthermore, whilst there are flat-pack planters made of timber, and of sheet metals, there are not any planters that can be flat-packed and then assembled without the use of fixings, which both complicate the assembly, and also add to the cost of the units.
Statement of Invention
To overcome these problems, the present invention proposes a method of manufacturing planters that allows the units to be flat-packed, and easily assembled without fixings, thereby allowing an air-porous fabric liner to be supported from beneath and from all the sides, whilst still allowing air to circulate around all surfaces of the planter, to better perform in its air-pruning capabilities.
Advantages The design of the planter allows it to be flat-packed, allowing for cheaper and easier storage and transportation.
The planter can be easily assembled, without the use of fixings.
The planter will allow a liner to sit safely above the ground, allowing air to circulate all around the planter.
The planter will hold a liner on all sides, not just at the base, allowing for greater security, whilst still allowing air to circulate.
The method of manufacture allows for a range of differently shaped planters, using differently shaped panels.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the following drawings -Figure 1 shows a planter assembled.
Figure 2 shows an exploded view of the planter, before assembly.
Figure 3 shows the end section of a rectangular version of the planter.
Figure 4 shows the side section of a rectangularversion of the planter.
Figure 5 the base section of a rectangular planter.
Figure 6 shows a profile view of the base panel of a rectangular planter.
Figure 7 shows a profile view of the end of the base panel of a rectangular panel.
Figure 8 shows an assembled rectangular planter.
A planter, as in Fig.l, is constructed of a plurality of side panels (1,2) and a base panel (4). Some of the side panels (1) have hooks (3) in each corner, allowing them to attach to the other panels (2). The other side panels (2) have decorative curls at each corner (5), which hold the base of the planter (4) above the ground. The base panel (4) has hooks on the sides, allowing it to attach to the side panels (land 2). The same technique can be applied to other shapes of planter (fig 8), using the same hooks and curls, but with different dimensions of panel (Fig 3, fig 4, fig 5).

Claims (9)

  1. Claims 1. A planter that is assembled with no fixings from a plurality of panels, which when unassembled can be flat-packed.
  2. 2. A planter according to Claim 1, that when assembled can hold its base panel clear of the ground.
  3. 3. A planter according to claim 1, that uses hooks on the panels to allow them to securely attach to each other, and so not needing any form of other fixing or attachment in its assembly.
  4. 4. A planter according to any, or any combination of the previous claims, which can support a liner from beneath and from all of the sides.
  5. 5. A planter according to any of the previous claims, which includes a liner made from a fabric that allows the air-pruning of plant roots.
  6. 6. A planter according to claim 4 or 5, which allows air to circulate around all sides of the liner.
  7. 7. A planter according to any of the previous claims that can be manufactured with three panels, so forming a triangular planter.
  8. 8. A planter according to any of the previous claims that can be manufactured with rectangular side and base panels, so forming a rectangular planter.
  9. 9. A planter according to any of the previous claims, where any number in excess of 3 panels can be used, so creating a plurality of differently shaped planters.
