Abstract

A paper cartridge and printer assembly comprises a cartridge 10 adapted to store a plurality of sheets of paper 11 with a cartridge memory device 13, and a printer 1 adapted to print on paper in the cartridge. The printer is provided with a printer memory 4 to record and store data representing information printed on the sheets of paper and a printer memory transfer device 5 to transfer data representing information printed on the sheets of paper to the cartridge memory device and to recover data from the cartridge device to reprint information on further sheets of paper. The printer may include a cartridge dock to releasably secure the cartridge to the printer where a lock mechanism may be provided to prevent removal of the cartridge from the dock whilst paper in the cartridge is being printed by the printer.

Description

Title: Paper Cartridge and Printer The present invention relates to a paper cartridge and printer, especially for photographs.
Many people take pictures using a digital camera (or phone with digital camera). It is common practice to print these out and then erase the pictures in the camera to free up storage space in the camera memory. Some people also store their pictures on computer.
The printed pictures are often lost or some go missing and many people fail to have a storage system to retrieve them for viewing at a later date. If lost, they are often lost for good if they have been erased from the camera memory. Even if they are on a computer, by the time it is decided to retrieve them, the computer may have broken.
The invention seeks to provide a solution to this problem.
According to the present invention there is provided either singly or in combination a paper cartridge and printer comprising: a) a cartridge adapted to store a plurality of sheets of paper, and a cartridge memory device, and b) a printer adapted to print on paper in the cartridge, said printer having a printer memory to record and store data representing information printed on the sheets of paper, and a printer memory transfer device to transfer to the cartridge memory device data representing information printed on the sheets of paper and to recover data from the cartridge device to reprint information on further sheets of paper, in use the cartridge can be used to store paper printed by said printer, and said cartridge memory device used to reprint on paper.
Preferably the printer includes a cartridge dock to releasably secure the cartridge to the printer.
Preferably a lock mechanism is provided to prevent removal of the cartridge from the dock whilst paper in the cartridge is being printed by said printer.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Referring to the drawing there is shown a printer 1.
Printer I has a cartridge recess 2 to deliver paper to a printing station 3. Printing station 3 may work using any suitable technology such as "inkjet" or "dye sublimation", e.g. an ink free system such as Zink sold by Zink Imaging Inc. Printer 1 may print images from data from any suitable source such as a computer "X", memory card in a slot "Y", or wireless transfer from a camera or phone to a Bluetooth receiver "Z".
A paper cartridge lOis provided. Cartridge lOis adapted to store a plurality of sheets of paper 11 to be printed by printer 1 in an open-ended pocket 12, and has cartridge memory device 13.
Printer I has a printer memory 4 to record and store temporarily data representing information printed on the sheets of paper, and a printer memory transfer device 5 to transfer to the cartridge memory device 13 data representing information printed on the sheets of paper and to recover data from the cartridge device to reprint information on further sheets of paper.
Recess 2 forms a cartridge dock to releasably secure the cartridge 10 to the printer I. A lock mechanism, in the form of a pivoted claw 6 in the printer which releasably engages an indent 14, is provided to prevent removal of the cartridge from the dock whilst paper 11 in the cartridge lOis being printed by printer 1.
In use the cartridge 10 can be used to store paper printed by said printer. It is envisaged that after paper 11 has been printed, the cartridge forms a storage box for the paper 11. If one or more sheets of paper 11 are lost, the cartridge can be re-inserted into the printer recess 2, and data in the cartridge memory device 13 can be read by the transfer device 5 and used to reprint on fhrther sheets of paper.
The invention is particularly suitable for printing and storage of photos printed on paper 11. It is envisaged that the cartridges will form a neat filing and storage system for photos where each cartridge can be marked to identify them for Iliture viewing. For example a cartridge could be marked with a label, e.g. reading "Summer Holiday" or "Christmas Lunch".
The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above.

Claims (4)

  1. S -ICLAIMS1. Singly or in combination a paper cartridge and printer comprising: a) a cartridge adapted to store a plurality of sheets of paper, and a cartridge memory device, and b) a printer adapted to print on paper in the cartridge, said printer having a printer memory 4 to record and store data representing information printed on the sheets of paper, and a printer memory transfer device to transfer to the cartridge memory device data representing information printed on the sheets of paper and to recover data from the cartridge device to reprint information on further sheets of paper, in use the cartridge can be used to store paper printed by said printer, and said cartridge memory device used to reprint on paper.
  2. 2. A paper cartridge and printer according to claim 1, wherein the printer includes a cartridge dock to releasably secure the cartridge to the printer.
  3. 3. A paper cartridge and printer according to claim 2, wherein a lock mechanism is provided to prevent removal of the cartridge from the dock whilst paper in the cartridge is being printed by said printer.
  4. 4. A paper cartridge and printer substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawing.
