Abstract

The invention relates to a commode having a horizontal sliding lid 2. A hand is preferably placed under the lid 10 and pulled or pushed for removal or replacement of the lid.

Description

ktroduction and Description of portable commodes
A portable toilet is known as a commode, and used when it is difficult for users to get to a static toilet. The portable toilet or commode comprises of a commode bowl and lid which slots downwards into a commode stand.
Commode bowl lids today are made in such a way that they consist of a small raised uniform handle attached to the top of the commode lid. The handle is small, round in shape, and extremely smooth in texture. The lid is removed by lifting upwards, separating it from the commode bowl, and replaced by placing the lid downwards again, on top of the bowl.
Difficulty arises when trying to grasp the handle to remove and replace the lid. The elderly have difficuhies in handling the lid hanifie due to limitations of old age and health problems such as arthritis in the fingers, causing pain and lack of strength in the fingers. Health workers will use latex or vinyl gloves, and find these gloves an obstacle to grasping the lid, especially when wet, as the fingers slip off the handle so a grip cannot be established.
Commode bowls can be wet places; be it from urine or from water after the bowl has been washed out. When wet, the lower edge where the lid sits causes the commode lid to stick' to this lower edge, and again it is difficult to remove the lid using the handle because of the suction which sticks' the lid to the commode bowl's lower edge. It is extremely difficult to remove the lid without using the handle.
NEW INVENTION ACCOMPASSING CHANGES TO COMMODE BOWL LID, LID HANDLE AND STAND.
A SLIDING LII) TO BE USED WITH COMMODE BOWL. ALONG WITH CHANGES TO THE COMMODE BOWL. LID. LII) HANDLE AND COMMODE STAND. ACCORDINGLY To overcome the above problems, the proposed invention comprises of an improved commode lid, lid handle and commode bowl, depending on the example iflustrated (see below). The lid will have a sliding horizontal action instead of a vertical and upwards release, as mentioned above. The hand is placed under the lid, creating the handle (shown as 10 in the drawings), and pulled or pushed.
depending on whether the lid is to be removed or replaced. Changes to the commode bowl and commode lid are made accordingly.
lii reference to the drawings, there are two examples shown. Example I illustrates the lid larger than what is already known; an extension of the lid will surpass past the given vertical and upwards commode bowl line, on one side, when the lid is in place on top of commode bowl. Example 2 illustrates the lid in line with the commode bowl.
To accommodate the sliding action, part of the commode bowl's higher rim is removed. This will occur with example I and example 2.
Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4 illustrate example I. Note, in figure 1, the dotted lines, shown as number II, is where the rim exists before part of it has been removed, and is the current structure used today.
This can also be seen in figures 10, 11 and 12 (see below, and illustrates example 2). This higher rim removal is part of the new invention. The remaining higher rim is transparent in the diagrams.
so the lid can be seen, however it is a solid structure. Figures 5, 6, 7 and 8 illustrate example 2, also with a transparent view of the remaining higher rim. The commode bowl is further altered in example 2, and shown in figure 9. Here, there is a frontal view of a gap' in the bowl, along with some of the numbered features already illustrated in figures 5,6,7 and 8.
Commode bowls today have a straight even edge all the way around the circular or square bowl's higher rim, and when the contents are poured away, it cannot be determined where the contents will end up, as they can be splattered in different directions with uncertainly. At present, there is no specific location within the commode bowl's higher rim where the contents can be disposed. With the created (3), the contents can be disposed off in the same location with determination of where the contents will end up, which will be in the same place. Example I and example 2 illustrate the pouring section shown opposite to the centre of the removed higher rim. It is shown as a v' shape in figures 10. 11 and 12, although a half oval or other similar shapes can be used.
Example 2 has an attachment to the lid, shown as (8). This should slot into (7). although slightly away from (7) in figure 9. to show the difference between the two. The purpose of this is to secure unpleasant odours &om entering the atmosphere.
The two different lid and bow' types are shown as 2(i). 2(u) for example I (i) and example 2 (ii), in reference to the two types of lid changes; and 4(i), 4(h) for example 1 (i) example 2 (ii), in reference to the commode bowl; different in example 2, as part of the bowl has been removed, creating (7).
Figures 10, 11 and 12 show a bird's eye view of example 2. Figure 10 is without the lid, figure 11 with lid and figure 12 with the lid half off. Figure 13 shows the whole set up of example 2 when put together in a complete diagrammatic format.
The commode bowl needs a stand for it to be used. Figure 14 shows example 2, illustrating the commode bowl and stand, separately. The commode bowl will fit into the stand. Example 1 is not illustrated in this format, but the same set-up applies. Figure 15 shows the commode bowl within the commode stand. Example I is not illustrated in this format, but the same set-up appfies.
Figure 16 shows the set-up indicating where the bar would occur in some commodes stands today.
The new invention will have this bar removed, and shown as two dotted lines in figure 16. Example 1 is not illustrated in this fonmt, but the same set-up applies.
Alternative structures may be used to strengthen the stand, due to the removal of the frontal bar, shown in figure 16, as reference numbers 13 and 14. Variations to these structures may be made consisting of vertical, horizonta' and diagonal straight structures; and also curved structures.
accordingly. These structures are made of metals.
The shape of the lid and commode bowl can be made in any suitable shape; therefore shapes such as square, rectangle, round and ova' can be manufactured. Other shapes may apply.
Manufacturing uses one whole piece of material for the commode bowl, and one whole separate piece of material for the commode lid. Such materials to be used for the commode bowl and lid will be readily used plastics.
The commode bowl, lid and stand may be made in a variety of sizes to accommodate children.
average sized people, and the larger person, therefore, manufacturing the smallest to the largest sizes possiNe.
The commode illustrated uses less materials and is lighter than many commodes on the market today. This makes its movability effortless. It is cheaper to make than many on the market today as it contains less materials as some commodes on the market use excessive materials which are not cost effective.
