Abstract

A multi-purpose pair of anglers pliers for pinching on and pinching off split shot from fishing line and for removing fish hooks from fish. The pliers comprise a pair of jaws 4, 5 and a pair of handles 1 rotating from a fixed pivot point 2. The upper jaw is provided with a tapered wedged shaped section 6 to aid in the removal of spilt shot. The lower jaw has an upper flat surface and a rounded base 3.

Description

BACKGROUND
This invention relates to a simple to use uncomplicated multi-purpose pair of pliers:
for removing fishing hooks from fish pinching split shot weights to line pinching split shot weights off line
The mechanical device comprising of a pair of jaws, a pair of handles rotating from a fixed pivot point. The physicial action being when the handles are squeezed together the jaws of the tool can grip or perform the required tasks i.e. holding a fish hook at the ends of the jaws of the pliers in order to remove it from a fish to place an attached to line split shot in between the middle section of the jaws so that when the jaws are squeezed together the wedged shaped section of the jaws cleaves apart the split in the split shot enabling the said shot to be separated from the line and removed.
the third use of the tool is to pinch split shot onto line by simply placing the line in the split section of the shot and holding in the jaws either end of the cleaving edge and pinching together.
A further important factor that simplifies using the tool when pinching on or pinching off shot although not so obvious, is the narrow rounded smooth lower part of the lower jaw which is specifically designed to allow the shot to be held into position in the jaws of the tool between the finger and the thumb and still allow the jaws to be brought together to complete the function.
Anglers generally after a day's fishing when dismantling their fishing tackle find the only way of removing the split shot from their line is by cutting the line and stripping the split shot off and discarding them, this can cause line damage. Alternatively discarding the line with the split shot still attached.
The unfortunate downside of discarded split shot in our lakes and rivers is the possible affect it can have on wild fowl, particularly swans who can ingest the shot with harmful effect.
By using this tool it means the shot can be reused or returned to the tackle box.

Claims (4)

1 A pair of fisherman's pliers that comprise of a pair of handles pivotally joined to a pair of jaws so that when the handles are squeezed together the resultant action of the jaws coming together perform the required tasks.
2 A pair of fisherman's pliers according to claim 1 in which the wedge shaped section of the upper jaw come together with the lower jaw so as to perform the cleaving action to open the split on a split shot.
3 A pair of fisherman's pliers according to claim 1 in which the end sections of the jaws can be pinched together to grip a fish hook in order to remove said hook from fish.
4 A pair of fisherman's pliers according to claim 1 in which the two flat inner surfaces of the jaws either end of the wedge shaped cleaving section come together to allow split shot to be pinched onto fishing line.
