Abstract

A machine tool has a rotary element 1 with slides 16, 16', which may carry cutting chisels 2, 2' or chuck jaws (21, Figure 2). Rotary element 1 can be driven to rotate about a spindle axis 17, and slides 16, 16 can additionally be moved radially with respect to spindle axis 17. The radial movement is introduced into the rotary element by an epicyclic gear 19 through a shaft 14 arranged concentrically with respect to spindle axis 17. The epicyclic gear may be preassembled to or retrofittable to rotary element 1. Advantageously, slides 16, 16â may move synchronously to avoid imbalance.

Description

Introduction Of Additional Movements Into
Rotating Elements Of Machine Tools The present invention is concerned with the introduction of additional movements into rotating elements of machine tools, such as the radial advancing of rotating tools, automated workpiece clamping, or the automatic retightening of DE 199 21 919 Al discloses a lathe for machining stationary workpieces with rotating tools. The tools are movably guided on slides on a rotating rotary element, and are also adapted to be moved relative tothe workpiece and stopped independently of one another. For this, epicyclic gearing is provided; the power take-off movement is transmitted, through a spur gear with internal and external teeth, to a slide drivéshaft which is in turn connected to a worm gear. As a result, it is possible to advance a plurality of tools radially to the workpiece independently of one another. However, the technical complexity involved is very great. Because of the spur gear being provided with internal and external teeth, it is not possible to use a central slide driveshaft for the synchronous engagement of the tools. The gear is integrated in a multifunctional apparatus and is not suitable for retrofitting to existing machines. . The problem of the present inyontion is to make it easier to suerimpose additional movements on rotating. elements of machine tools. This problem is solved with an apparatus accoiding to claim 1..
Preferred embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example only and with referenpe to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shoWs the,introduction of an additional movement into a rotating rotary.element 1, in schernaticyiewapd.
Figure 2 shows.a rotary element 1 embodied as a chuck.
As shown in Figure 1, the main spindle ofarnachine tool carrying a rotary element 1 is synchrohised by ii eansof an épicyclic gear with a shaft 14 for 30. introducing an adition?I movement..... . . . For this purpose; the rotary element 1 is mounted in a frame 5 for rotation about a spindle axis 17, and is drivento rotate by aspindle.motpr 15: Slides. 16, 1.6' are radially movably gçided on the rotary element 1, as indicated by the double arrows 18, 16', and the slides 16, 16.cari carry tools. such as cutting tools 35. . In order to move the slides towards or away from the spkndle axis 11, a second movement has to be superimposed on the rotary movement of the rotary element 1 The slides 16, 16' are made to move radially relative to the spindle axis 17 by rotation of a gear wheel 11. This drives the shaft 14, which is disposed * concentrically with respect to the spindie axis 17, The shaft 14 drives bevel gears 4, and screw-threaded pinions 3, 3 connected to the bevel gears cooperate with the slides 16, 16' to cause them to move.
The gear wheel ills operatively connected, via an epicyclic gear 19, to a gear wheel 12 which is mounted to drive the rotation element 1. In order to generate the additional movement, a motor l3is flange-mounted on the epicyclic gear 19, and this motor directly drives a sun gear 8 that meshes with a planet wheel 7. The planet wheel in turn engages in the internal teeth of a ring gear 6. The ring gear 6 is mounted for rotation on the central spindle. A planet carrier 9 is rigidly connected to a gear wheel 10. Finally, the gear wheel 10 drives the gear wheel 11, so that the shaft 14 is driven to rotate and. thus produce the superimposed rotary movement.
When the motor 13 is stationary, the slides 16, 16' do notalter their position.
Depending on the direction of rotation of the motor 13, the slides 16, 16' are either advanced radially inwards, towards the spindle axis 17, or moved outwards.
Advantageously the synchronous movement of the slides 16, 16' avoids any imbalances.
To summarise, the speed of the spindle motor 15 is imparted to the epicyclic gear 19 by the gear wheel 12 and the additional movement is introduced into the rotary element through the gear wheel 11. Particularly advantageously, the spindle axis 11 with the gear wheel 12 and the shaft 14 with the gear wheel 11 are mounted concentrically. As a result, the epicyclic gear 19 can be preassembled as a compact assembly. and easily retrofitted. . .. . The rotary element.1 may be configuredin a machine tool as a tool holder for rotary tools for machining stationary workpieces In Figure 1 cutting chisels 2 2' are shown as an example of the tools which can be used Another embodiment is shoWn in Figure 2. There, the rotary élementl is embodied asa chuck. The chuck jaws 21 can be readjusted during machining, for example to retighteri a gnp onTthe workpiece.;
