Abstract

An apparatus to cool air comprises a grill (apertured container) filled with liquid that has been frozen, the grill being placed in an airflow to thereby cool the air. The apparatus is attachable to a fan and located in front of an airflow generated by the fan, wherein the airflow from the fan passes over and through the grill and is cooled. The fan may be an oscillating electric fan or a ceiling fan. The grill is made from plastics material. The grill may be scaled in size, and can be strategically placed in building or public spaces exposed to varying degrees of sunlight and shade to create a natural draught to reduce the temperature of the draught.

Description

Patent Specification
energy efficient air cooler This invention relates to an energy efficient means of cooling an airflow.
In hot climates or during heat waves for many people air conditioning is either too expensive or impractical and so electric fans are widely used to provide a refreshing airflow. But when the ambient temperature is high their effectiveness can be greatly reduced.
To overcome this, the present invention proposes a liquid filled plastic grill which once frozen -in also widely available freezers/iceboxes -can be placed in said airflow to chill the air by thermal conduction.
An advantage of this invention is: no extra energy other than that already in use for freezer/icebox and electric fan is consumed in providing chilled airflow.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings.
On drawing page 1/2: figure 1 and figure 4 show side elevation and front elevation of the device.
figure 2 and figure 3 show side elevation and front elevation of the liquid filled device. This unit is to be frozen prior to placing in airflow.
On drawing page 2/2: figure 7 shows device in place in its carrier 3 mounted on a typical electric fan allowing unit to oscillate.
figure 5 shows a horizontal version of the device I in place above a ceiling fan.
4 and 5 show views of a proposed implement to ease fitment of device designed for horizontal fans.
