Abstract

An anchoring member for attachment of bracing for fencing or hoardings comprises a cuboid body having top and bottom surfaces and four lateral faces. The lateral faces each have a means for attachment of a bracing member at least partially embedded in them. The attachment means may be a bar extending across part of the width of the face and housed in a cutaway portion of the face. The bar, or elongate member, may be of steel. The cuboid body may be of concrete or of plastic and may be hollow to accommodate ballast or have reinforcement incorporated. The body may have aperture formed through it between pairs of opposing side faces, the apertures may be for lifting the anchor or for receiving additional bracing members. The body may be moulded in a mould in which the attachment bars have been located with blanking means surrounding them. A liner may be used with the mould to create a hollow anchor body.

Description

ANCHORING MEMBER
Fisid of the Invention [CCCI] The present invenilon re'ates to an anchoring member tor bracing temporary structures and, particuiarly, to.a reusable anchoring member for bracing hoardThg pan&s and their tike.
ck.rodjf the nvention r00021 Temporary walls or partitions are used to delimR separate areas for a variety of purposes, over a limited period of time. Different types of partitioning panels are known, which are used accoidin.g to the characteristics of the areas and/or the actMties that take place therein. For instance, steel wfre paftt:ionin panels are used in areas subjected to hih winds, S*nce they do not present any substantiai surface resistance to 4n.d fOrces, and solid partitionkg 15. panels are used about the periphery of areas from which dust and de*b.ri are at risk of pflection [0003] For cors!deratJons of s-af&) c)n-tLctto sues n oartic.. ar requirO ot:d boardin. from adjadent pubic andiot private thOroughfares. whib4t o bulld}ng activities continue to take place. A temporary wall is usually made a hoarding paheis, aligned with one another about the periphery of the construction site, but lacks a foundation and some or all of the panels must therefOre he braced against unexpected loads such as hiyhwinds and accidental impacts 25. 0OO4] With reference to Figure 1 herein, a simple method of bracing a temporaN waD 10 is to wedge or secure one or more beam members 11 at an angie between the lateral side 12 of the wail facing the constructiOn site and the ground 13 of the construction site adjacent the wall. This first method reduces the useful working area coAtaned by the temporary wail, as each beam member 11 3 a must extend within the cnstruction site area in proportion to the height of the temporary wall. Moreover, manoeuvring each beam member 11 into position and to the required engFe can prove Jifficuit and hazardous.
[0005 Another known method, is to re -use one or more empty contaners 15, oarcularly carres o the hKe, Dy locaung each contaner 15 substanba!y adjacent the atera sde 12 ot the wdI, d*isposng a bracng member Ii substantially vertically within the contair.er 15 and securing the bracing member Ii to the ater& sde 12 then tilling the contarer 15 wni nibble f D1 tne construcflon site as ballast. This second method eaves much of the wcring area contaneo by the empoar' wail unhindered by the bracng solution, howeer the additional structural strength provided by Inc rubble ballast nnot be accurately verifled through. calculation and, moreover, the containers are not cc used due to their ad hoc character.
[0006] A sôiuliOn for bracing temoorary structures is therefore required, whK h mmgates at least so-is of the above oroolems 15.: $tujirnary of the hwenttèn [0007] The presert invention provides an anchoring member for bradng temporary structures, such as boarding was, ãSist unexpected loads such as high winds and accidental impacts. The anchoring blather is sotonfIgured as to he easily. disposed reithive to a temporary structure, easily and rapidly connected to the temporary structure and re -usable.
