Description

Medicines spoon
Description Title
Medicines spoon.
Background
This invention relates to a novel medicine spoon which contains an integrated electronic device in the handle of the spoon. This reduces the risk of accidental overdose. The electronic device is programmed with the dosing schedules of common medicines that are used as liquids. The electronic device indicates when a dose is next due and will warn the user if attempting to give a dose too early.
Statement of invention
The medicines safety spoon is comprised of the spoon head and spoon handle. The spoon handle is comprised of a barrel in which an electronic device sits. The electronic device is controlled by pressing designated areas on the handle. The electronic device contains a library of medicines and their dosing schedules. This allows the user to select which medicine is being given. The electronic device calculates the dosing schedule for the user.
The device will warn the user when a dose is next due and warns the user if attempting to give a dose too early, or if giving an overdose.
It is intended that this product will be registered with the MHRA as a medical device and will comply with all relevant legislation.
Advantages The safety mechanism in the electronic device significantly reduces the chances of accidental overdose by the user by warning them if a dose is going to be given too early, or if the user attempts to use too many doses in a fixed time period.
The electronic device calculates when a dose is next due and alerts the user. This removes the responsibility from the user to remember when to take their medicine. This will ensure that the medicines dosing regime is more fully complied with and will therefore lead to health benefits in the user.
