High-potential switches for multi-phase systems, for connecting e.g. a branch conductor to one or both of the feeders, comprise a rotatable spindle a on which are mounted T-shaped members b, b<1>, b<2>, one for each phase, the three ends of each T-shaped member carrying mutually connected contacts d adapted to co-operate with fixed contacts e of which two are connected to the feeders and the third to the branch conductor. Figs. 1 and 2 show the invention applied to an air break switch, the spindle a being mounted in a lattice tower with the members b, b<1>, b<2> at the top and means for rotating the spindle at the bottom. Fig. 7 shows one position of the switch in which the T-shaped members connect the branch line C to both of the feeders A, B. By rotating the spindle the line C may be connected to A or B or A and B may be connected together or contact may be broken altogether. The members b, b', b<2> are mounted on a frame j which runs by rollers k on the H-shaped spindle a so that it can be lowered to the ground and the contacts, fuses &c. can be renewed. Means for lowering the frame i comprising an endless chain i and a system of pulleys are described. To ensure correct registration of contacts when the frame i is raised again into position, it is caused to pass by and then descend into contact with stops r, Fig. 6, which are moved inwards and outwards by a rod s operated from the ground by a lever x. The invention is also shown applied to a three-phase oil-switch, the spindle a in this case projecting upwards through the cover and carrying an external operating wheel.
