Abstract

Fluid actuation.-A pressure or vacuum regulator particularly applicable for use in connection with coal manufacturing plant has the speed of the prime mover driving the compressor or exhauster controlled by the conduit pressure acting on a liquid sealed bell. In the Figure, the invention is shown applied to the actuation of a steam throttle valve, but it is also applicable for actuating an electric switch controlling an electric motor. The actuating bell 1 mounted on a fixed tank 2 is guided by rods 3 secured to the bell by a rod 5 and engaging a fixed cross-head 6. The rods are connected by a bridge 24 adapted to receive loading weights 25 and a bridge 18 connected to the piston 16 of an oil dash-pot 15 carried by the cross-head 6. The rod 5 has a sleeve 11 provided with trunnions 12 connected by a lever to the valve. When used to control vacuum, an air-filled float 8 is arranged inside the bell and adapted to bear against a flange ring and fixed to the bell.
