Abstract

A seal for monitoring or detecting tampering of a compartment or container, in particular a truck trailer, comprises an RFID reader 2 and RFID tag 1 which are mounted to a door 6 or opening and a frame 5 adjacent the door/opening. The tag and reader communicate with each other and a random number is generated and displayed on a display 3 provided on the reader. When the door/opening is opened such that the tag and reader are no longer within range of one another the reader displays the message 'open' . Upon closing the door a new random number is generated and appropriate monitoring of the random numbers displayed can determine if the door has been opened or otherwise tampered with. The tag transmitter may be of the active type which includes its own individual power source. It is designed to transmit at regular intervals, a validation code to the reader receiver which listens for the validation code to see if the tag is in a valid proximity to the seal.

Description

TITLE: A SELF CONTAINED ELECTRONIC APPARATUS WITH A RANDOM
NUMBER GENERATOR TRIGGERED BY A RFID TAG
DESCRIPTION
The invention is in the field of sealing devices, and in particular electronic sealing devices for sealing compartments and for including whether a sealed compartment has been opened. The invention further relates to security devices in general as well as to devices for detecting the integrity of the sealed containers.
As global commerce and the trade in commodities increase the rate of crime such as theft and smuggling also increases.
Transportation of these goods occurs via a number of different means and may require crossing many borders before the goods reach their final destination.
It is essential that the manufacture or haulier can guarantee that the goods reach their final destination intact and untampered.
The known sealing devices described in GB2448482 & W00233682 are designed to use security cables, with stop ends. One end of the security cable is permanently attached to the seal. The security cable travels through a locking device securing the door, then back to the securing socket on the seal. The problem with the seals security cables is that they are very easily damaged and can course injury to the operator's hands. The cables also have to be replaced frequently at high costs.
The new invention disposes of the use of security cables, as the seal invention automatically detects the closed or open position of the container door, by way of described with reference in
the following description.
The new invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig 1. 1 shows the tag and transmitter in a valid proximity to the 2 seal and seal receiver 3 showing the LCD screen with a generated five digit number.
Fig 2. 1 shows the tag transmitter 2 showing the seal and seal receiver not in a valid proximity of the 1 tag transmitter 4 shows the LCD screen displaying OPEN Fig3. 1 shows the tag and transmitter in a valid proximity to the 2 seal and seal receiver 3 showing the LCD screen with a generated five digit number 5 shows the rear view of a truck or trailer body with the rear doors closed 6.
Fig 4. 1 shows the tag transmitter 2 showing the seal and seal receiver not in a valid proximity of the 1 tag transmitter 4 shows the LCD screen displaying OPEN 5 shows the rear view of a truck or trailer body with the rear doors open 6. 2.
