Abstract

Elastic-diaphragm pressure gauges; indicating means for.-Comprises a method of measuring pressure in which one or more flexible hollow bodies are acted upon by an auxiliary force supplied by springs, weights, magnets &c. which force is automatically varied, when the hollow bodies are under the influence of the pressure to be measured, so as to tend to return the bodies to normal position, the variation being controlled by the movement of the bodies completing electric circuits which bring into play an electric power unit to vary the force, the movement of the unit being transmitted to indicating mechanism. An arm 3 attached to the capsules 2 is provided with adjustable stops 40 arranged on either side of an extension 39 of the frame 1 to limit movement of the capsules. The arm 3 is loaded with a spring 17 and is provided with a recess with which engages a knife edge 4 on a lever 5 acted upon at the other end by a spring 6. The fulcrum of the lever is adjustable and comprises a roller 7 on a nut 8 adapted to be moved by a screw 9 on a shaft 10. A contact lever 19 is provided with a spear-head 20 engaging a recess in the arm 3 against which it is held by a knife edge on a spring-pulled strap 26. When the capsules move under pressure the lever 19 is moved to make the contacts 22, 23 or 22, 24 and cause one or other of the magnets 30, 31 to be energized. The electric motor 16 is then automatically started in one direction or the other and through worm gearing 13, 14 and gears 11, 12 rotates the shaft 10 to move the nut 9 and shift the fulcrum 7, thus altering the leverage of the force exerted by the spring 6 until the capsules 2 are restored to their normal position and the contacts 22, 23. or 22, 24 broken. A pointer 8 on the shaft 10 indicates the pressure. In a modification, the capsules are replaced by a hollow body closed by a corrugated diaphragm which is reinforced by a spring arranged within the body.
