Abstract
An image printed in reverse on acetate/universal transparency film paper, is transferred onto a latex coated substrate which may comprise optionally emulsion primed canvas, or mdf, glass or poly(methylmethacrylate). The latex is first coated on the substrate and then dried. The printed image/support film is then pressed on the latex under a heavy weight for a half day and then placed in a freezer for 24 hours. The acetate paper may then be peeled off to leave the bonded image.

Method 1: The application of the following: There are 3 steps of the process: 1. Is to print the image (of own photograph) from a colour inkjet printer or from a commercial printer that uses toner powder, onto an acetone/ universal transparency film.
2. Either make your own canvas where you prime it yourself with a coat of emulsion or just leave it as it is.
Or to purchase a ready made canvas that is pre-pnmed.
3. Pour the latex dipping rubber onto the canvas and spread evenly by moving the canvas with both bands; back and forth, side to side, until the latex is level with the whole canvas and then using your fmger level out any lumps around the edges.
Let it dry in room temperature.
Latex is ready once dry, notice when you reverse the canvas and the fabric is dry. It has also changed in colour (more sepia, dark look than when it's wet) Then place the acetone paper-printed side down onto the latex.
If the printed image is of a person with his right hand out to the right, flip the imagc around andjlace the acetone on the latex showing that the person is pointing in the left direction.
* Press evenly with your fingers and hands for the acetone to stick.
Place a heavy weight on top of the acetone then let it set for half a day.
Then place the canvas with the acetone paper into the freezer for 24 hours.
* Take it out of the freezer, the acetone will feel wet and cold, using a plastic card or anything with a flat surface, move the object up and down over the acetone paper until the image comes off the acetone and transfers onto the latex (completely transparent).
: *** If any remaining image is left on the acetone you can use your fingernail to transfer the image back onto the canvas.
* . Then carefully remove or peel off the acetone paper from the canvas.
Could then frame the canvas or leave it as it is, as an art work itself.
METHOD 2: The application of the following: There are 3 steps for the result of Latex Imagery.
I. Is to print the image (my own photograph) from a colour inkjet printer or from a commercial printer that uses toner powder, onto an acetone! universal transparency film 2. Build your own stretcher but instead of a canvas being stretched a piece of medium density fibre is placed on top 3. Pour the latex dipping rubber onto the mdf and spread evenly by moving the mdf with both hands; back and forth, side to side, until the latex is level with the whole mdf and then using your finger level out any lumps around the edges.
Let it dry in room temperature.

Then place the mdf with the acetone paper into the freezer for 24 hours.
Take it out of the freezer, the acetone will feel wet and cold, using a plastic card or anything with a flat surface move the object up and down over the acetone paper until the image comes off the acetone and transfers onto the latex. If any remaining image is left on the acetone you can use your fingernail to transfer the image back onto the canvas.
Then carefully remove or peel off the acetone paper from the mdf.

Claims (9)
- CLAIMS: The invention relates to latex imagery. It is a form of artwork with materials of latex dipping rubber and a printed image on acetone. It can be placed on certain materials, such as canvas (primed with emulsion or not), mdf, Perspex or glass. The finished piece is considered as an artwork. * I S...I * * I. * * S S * IS 5SI * S. * S I *. SII.....I IAmendments to the claims have been filed as followsCLAIMS1. Health and safety- -The health and safety issues are logical.-Never expose the finished piece to direct flame or heated surfaces -It will turn black and reveal a toxic smell.-Do not scrub -Wipe occasionally with a dry or damp cloth.-It is not edible.
- 2.Primed or not primed canvas -This makes a difference on the clarity of the image -When the painter's canvas is primed or purchased the latex tends to dry quicker and the transfer is more apparent, very clear -leaving an almost photograph effect ( the toner leaves a sparkling look) I am able to peel off the latex from the primed canvas and still have a clear image but faintly smudged because it has moved from its base.-When the painter's canvas is not primed or built the latex tends to take time to dry because there is no base (primer) and the image transfer is clear and define but not as accurate as the image was printed on.The latex can not be peeled off an un-primed canvas.
- 3. MdflPerspexlGlass.-They are solid object so the transfer is more defined as the purchased primed canvas. It can also be peeled of from the object.
- 4. Type of paper * ....: -In order of a transfer to happen, it depends on the paper. The paper that works best is: a -transparancy film! acetate paper (ones used for overhead projectors).-overhead projector acetate paper with a texture feel and smooth paper.-normal paper is difficult to peel off from the latex and will leave pieces of the paper itself. The colours from the paper (printed) will blend together -newspapers have the same effect as normal paper
- 5. Drying of latex * * -When the latex is poured onto the purchased or built canvas, primed or not, mdf, glass and perspex it is * : *** ready when the liquid is dry. The colour changes from milk white to a yellow sepia colour and the liquid transforms into a rubber form. It drys quickest over glass and perspex. On primed or unprimed painter's canvas it is ready when the colour changes and the canvas is dry on its back. By touching the latex you are able to know when its ready, a sticky dry feel.To make the bubbles on the latex, I simply pour the liquid latex and flick the liquid with my finger forming a round bubble. The stickyness of the latex rubber allows the transfer happen.
- 6. Freezer -Placing the transparancy film with the canvas for day allows the latex going sepia or darker.-By placing it in a cold cooling place prefebably a freezer for over 24 hours allows the latex colour remain the same as when I placed it in the freezer. The colour of the latex can be altered before by leaving it for a couple of hours to days depending on how dark I want it to be. Over time it gets darks. Applying it in a cool place allows it to remain the same colour and also enhances the ink on the transparancy film to be transfered easier. Once the image is transferred it is again placed in the freezer for security of its preservety.
- 7. CMYK. (Cian, Magenta. Yellow, Kain) The colours that are printed vary when it is transfered. Some transfer better than others. The family of Magenta, Black, Greens and Blues transfer best. Whist Yellows, Browns and White tansfer the least.
- 8. Preserving of the finished art work. When the finished art work is ready, there are a few steps in order to preserve it for a longer life.-If there is dust on the work, lightly dust it off with a cloth.-If there is a fine amount of dust lightly dust it off with a damp cloth.-Leave it in a cool dry place (home, office etc) -It may be left outside but prefered not, will keep it longer lasting.-If nib with any object or with hand with force, the ink toner will be scrapped off and will alter the image.
- 9. Weather conditions -Over the past 4 years i have been placing an individual piece of finished work in different weather : : conditions in order to see the outcome of each piece.-If placed under huge mass of snow the image does not alter or change.-Left outside in the rain (Annual British rain) for a longer period than 2 years the image will begin to slightly disappear but leave a blind spot mark of where the ink toner was. After 4 years the image no longer is.-Left in the sun for a very long time the colour of the latex will become darker (like burning it with fire on a slower process) -Storing it indoors in a cool dry place is it's best suitable place. .. rJ S*..S.. r)
