Abstract

An artificial putting surface having an elongate shape with a hole or hole representation 11 at one end and a plurality of parallel sections 13 perpendicular to the direction of elongation of the putting surface between the hole 13 and the other end of the putting surface. There may also be a line 12 passing through the hole or hole representation 13 which is perpendicular to the direction of elongation of the putting surface. The parallel 13 sections may be numbered between 1 and 18. The device may be used as part of a game to practice putting.

PUTTING SURFACE
This invention relates to an artificial putting surface.
In accordance with the present invention, there is provided an artificial putting surface having an elongate shape; at one end, a hole or a representation thereof; and, between the hole and the other end of the putting surface, a plurality of parallel sections which are perpendicular to the direction of elongation of the putting surface.
Such a putting surface provides a basis for games based around putting which may improve a golfer's putting ability.
In some embodiments, the putting surface may have a line passing through the hole or representation thereof which is perpendicular to the direction of elongation of the putting surface. This measure provides a reference which is spaced apart from the parallel sections.
The parallel sections may be numbered, for example, as 1 to 9 or 1 to 18.
The invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying figure.
Referring to the accompanying figure, a laid out, elongate putting surface made of artificial turf 10 is shown having a hole 11 at one end and, between the hole and the other end, 18 parallel sections 131-18. A reference line 12 is provided passing through the hole 11.
The turf can be rolled up for storage (not shown).
A golfer (or golfers) may engage in putting games for the purpose of improving there putting.
For example, a golfer may play 18 "golf holes" by making 18 attempts to putt a ball from behind the line 12 in to each of the 18 parallel sections 13118 respectively. A total score would indicate of the feel for distance that a golfer possesses for putting (there being no accuracy requirement).
In reverse, a golfer may play 18 "golf holes" by making 18 attempts to putt a ball from each of the 18 parallel sections 131-18 respectively in to the hole, scoring 1 to 18 points for a successful putt. A total score would indicate of the feel for distance and accuracy that a golfer possesses for putting.
Other different embodiments, falling within the scope of the accompanying claims, would suggest themselves to a person skilled in the art.

Claims (5)

  1. U LPI lvi 1. An artificial putting surface (10) having: * an elongate shape; * at one end, a hole (ii) or a representation thereof; and * between the hole and the other end of the putting surface, a plurality of parallel sections (13118) which are perpendicular to the direction of elongation of the putting surface.
  2. 2. An artificial putting surface (10) according to claim 1 having a line (12) passing through the hole or representation thereof which is perpendicular to the direction of elongation of the putting surface.
  3. 3. An artificial putting surface (10) according to claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the parallel sections are numbered.
  4. 4. An artificial putting surface (10) according to claim 3 wherein the parallel sections are numbered 1 to 9.
  5. 5. An artificial putting surface (10) according to claim 3 wherein the parallel sections are numbered ito 18.
