Abstract

A strap 1 comprises a strip of elastomeric material. It has slot holes (3, figure 1) at either end for feeding the handle of a utensil, such as a. spoon, through. An infant's hand is held between the elastomeric strap 1 and the spoon handle, thus securing the utensil to the hand and avoiding the problem of the infant dropping or throwing the utensil (see figure 3). The elastomeric material allows the strap to stretch to fit all standard infant spoons and forks.

Description

Title: Catalytic feeding trainer
Background:
This invention relates to aiding and teaching infants how hold an infant feeding utensil independently.
Infants are spoon fed from the age of 6 months upwards. Commonly, when infants are encouraged to hold an infant feeding utensil independently, in the initial stages of this process, the infant in most cases will drop or toss the feeding utensil away.
Statement of Invention:
* To overcome this problem and aid an infant to hold an infant feeding utensil independently, the present invention proposes a catalytic feeding trainer, in which comprises a flexible universal elastomer strap with slot holes at each end of the strap. (Use Figure 1 andfigure ib) * The handle of an infant feeding utensil will pass through the slot holes at both ends of the elastomer strap, the slot holes in the elastomer strap will expand to accommodate the utensil handle and contract and grip the utensil handle causing the body of the elastomer strap to form a camber when adjusted along the length of the utensil handle, creating a bow shaped gap between the upper handle side of the utensil and the under side of the elastomer strap. The tension of the elastomer strap can be adjusted by simply moving either end of the elastomer strap along the handle of the feeding utensil to accommodate the size of an infant's hand. (Use Figure 2) * When the infant grips the feeding utensil in the common over hand position the elastomer strap will hug the contours of the infant's back part of the hand and secure the spoon in the infant's palm. (Use Figure 3) * If the infant releases it's grip or tries to throw the spoon away, the spoon will stay in place, thus encouraging the infant to naturally grip the spoon or fork.
(Use Figure 3) Advantages: * The present invention acts as catalyst in the process of teaching infants how to hold an infant feeding utensil.
* The elastomer strap design in the present invention will stretch and adapt to fit all standard infant spoons or forks or knives or ergonomically designed infant left handed or right handed spoons or forks.

Claims (6)

  1. Claims Catalytic Feeding Trainer 1. A catalytic feeding trainer comprising a flexible universal elastomer strap with slot holes at each end of the elastomer strap that can be attached to any infant feeding utensil.
  2. 2. A catalytic feeding trainer according to claim 1, in which the etastomer strap can be attached to any infant feeding utensil by means of pushing and putting the handle of an infant feeding utensil, through the stot holes at both ends of the etastomer strap, with the body of the elastomer strap positioned over the top side of the handle of the infant feeding utensil.
  3. 3. A catalytic feeding trainer according to claim 1, in which the slot holes in the elastomer strap will expand to accommodate the utensil handle and contract gripping the untensil handle and the elastomer strap will remain securely attached to the handle of the feeding utensil.
  4. 4. A catalytic feeding trainer according to claim 1, in which the body of the elastomer strap will form a camber when adjusted along the utensil handle, when fully attached to an infant feeding utensil, creating a bowed shaped gap between the upper side of the utensil handle and the under side of the elastomer strap, allowing the tension of the elastomer strap to be adjusted by moving either end of the elastomer strap along the handle of the infant feeding utensil to accommodate the size of an infant's hand in the over hand grip position.
  5. 5. A catatytic feeding trainer according to all proceeding ctaims, in which the elastomer strap will hug the contours of an infant's back part of the hand and secure the feeding utensil in the infant's palm of an infant's hand, by means of the elastomer strap securing itself to the infant feeding utensil by means of the slot holes at either end of the elastomer strap expanding and contracting to grip the handle of an infant feeding utensil.
  6. 6. A catalytic feeding trainer according to claim 1, in which the elastomer strap is detachable from an infant feeding utensil and universally interchangeable with other infant feeding utensils.Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows Claims Catalytic Feeding Trainer 1. A catalytic feeding trainer comprising a sole elastomer strap, that is tapered inwards, forming V shaped indentations, at four equal points, located near flexible symmetrical apertures, that are positioned symmetrically at each end of the device, that can be attached to a feeding utensil by means of aligning the flexible apertures at both ends of the device, then positioning the device over the handle top side of a feeding utensil, then by means of pushing and pulling the handle of a feeding utensil through the flexible apertures at both ends of the device, that expand and contract, securing the device to the handle of a feeding utensil.2. A catalytic feeding trainer according to claim 1, in which the bow shaped area between the upper side of a utensil handle and the under side of the attached device can be adjusted by sliding the end of the device nearest to the utensil applicator, along Q the utensil handle towards the utensil applicator, to accommodate the size of a hand and secure the hand in the over hand grip position.C3. A catalytic feeding trainer according to claim 1, in which the device when fully attached to a feeding utensil will hug the contours of the back part of the hand and secure the feeding utensil in the palm of the hand, in the over hand grip position.4. A catalytic feeding trainer according to all proceeding claims, in which the elastomer strap is detachable from a feeding utensil and universally interchangeable with other feeding utensils.
