Abstract

247,147. Hellermann, P. F. Feb. 9, 1925, [Convention date]. Cable and wire terminals.-The ends of the insulation of electrical conductors are bound or bare conductors insulated by a piece of rubber tubing which is put in position by first stretching it and then releasing it. The tubing is of less diameter than the part to which it is applied so as to hold bv friction. A tool for applying the tubing is shown in Fig. 1, and consists of a pliers-like instrument consisting of two jaws b hinged at a and maintained closed by a spring d. Each jaw carries half of an expanding pin i, on which the tubing to be stretched is slipped, or of two or more such pins of different thickness. The jaws may be held open to maintain the tubing stretched by a spring latch f on the handles c. An accessory for use with the stretcher consists of a curved plate m, Fig. 4, with one or more sets of fingers n, o differently spaced, to hold the tube stretched in one direction while the stretcher is operating to stretch it in a direction at right angles.
