Abstract

The invention relates to a water tank constructed to look like a common garden fence and is designed to harvest rainwater. The tank comprises a hollow body formed in a slim rectangular shape with appropriately shaped ends so as to locate the tank between "H" section concrete fence posts 1 without fixings or screws. Rainwater is preferably directed via a filler 6 to the tanks. A filter may also be fitted at the filler to keep out debris. Each tank may be interconnected via outlets 7 and hoses 8 which may be connected to an irrigation system. The tank may be secured to a wall (3 figure 2) by lugs 10. The water tank may be manufactured in such a way that its cosmetic appearance is that of a common fence panel. A lid may be incorporated in the top of the tank for inspection and cleaning purposes.

Description

Fence panel water storage tank.
With climate change and the growing enthusiasm for people to grow their own vegetables there is concern that if a hose pipe ban were to come into force then there is the need for water to be readily available to enable the watering of vegetables and gardens to continue Established water butts are by the virtue of their shape cumbersome and ifjoined together to store large quantities of water would take up a lot of space in the average garden, and would also be unsightly.
The water storage tanks are of slim rectangular shape so as to fit as a direct replacement for 6ft wide fence panels which are the most popular in the UK. When used to replace fence panels which are supported by H section pre cast concrete posts. The fence panels can be lifted upwards for removal, and the fence panel storage tanks can be slotted in from the top as they are shaped so as to be secured within the H section. This process is very simple and quick and does not require any special skills. If wooden posts are used then there are lugs on the tanks with holes in so as they can be secured using wood screws or bolts. A combination of H section pre cast posts and wooden posts can therefore be used.
The fence panel water tanks are also suitable for use when secured to a wall as if they are rotated 180 degrees, the lugs that are provided to secure them to the wooden fence posts would then be flush to the wall and can be used using screws and wall plugs.
Inlet and outlet ports are provided in each corner and on each side so as whether the water tank is fixed flush to a wall or between posts they can be joined together by flexible hose making it possible to store vast amounts of water using very little space.
As flexible hoses are used to join the posts together they can be joined when installed on uneven ground or on a gradient. They can even be joined together around corners or with spaces for access between panels. Blanking plugs are fitted to block off ports that are not in use. A lid is incorporated in the top of the tank for inspection and cleaning and so as a rainwater pipe will fit through this aperture for filling from the guttering from an adjacent building. A filter can be fitted at this filler so as to keep out debris from the tanks.
Stop cocks, one way valves, taps and gauges can be attached to the upper and lower ports as require making the system flexible enough to accommodate drip feed and pressure pump supply of water for irrigation and domestic applications.
The water tank is manufactured from a durable plastic offered in a range of colours and its exterior is so shaped so as cosmetically to look like a wooden fence panel. It requires minimal maintenance, and is durable. 1.
