Abstract
246,972. Hall, D., Kay, J. H., and Hall & Kay, Ltd. Dec. 19, 1924. Winches.-Means for propelling the clearing brush of a gassing frame exhaust box or other dust collector comprises a winding shaft having means for connection to either of two winding drums which wind and unwind in the same directions and engage each other by friction means; the drum which is not connected to the shaft is free to rotate in the opposite direction against the friction means. The shaft 2 is mounted across the exhaust box and bearings in which it has axial movement limited by stops 6. Drums 7, 8 are loosely mounted on the shaft, and a friction sleeve 9 engages both of them. A sleeve 11 is splined on the shaft between the drum 7 and the adjacent bearing, and is provided with a ratchet wheel 12 coacting with a pawl 13 to prevent rotation in one direction ; a spring-pressed sleeve 14 is provided at the other side of the shaft. Clutch members 16, 17 are provided on the inner ends of the drums and on the shaft which is clutched to one or the other bv an axial movement. The cords for propelling the brush arc led from the drums one directly and the other around a pulley.
