Abstract

246,949. Hurden, E., and Hurden, A. P. Nov. 26, 1924. Walls.-Buildings are constructed by erecting a series of uprights a, to which roof and floor joists and beams are secured, and concrete is cast between inner and outer facing elements of asbestos cement or similar material, the inner sheets being fixed to the uprights and the outer sheets being arranged around the outside of the uprights and anchored in the concrete. The uprights a have wood fillets f, Fig. 2, attached by nails to their inner faces and the inner covering g is secured to such fillets. The inner covering g is prevented from bulging by skirting boards k, Fig. 1, and temporary stiffening boards. The concrete is poured between each course of outer covering elements h, usually of trough-section, and the inner covering elements, before the adjacent upper course of elements h is placed in position. Vertically disposed bars having projecting bolts or pins adapted to extend over the flanges of the trough units, are employed to support the trough units in position during casting of the wall. Angle-irons v, v<1> secured to the stanchions are adapted to support the floor joists or beams in position. Metal rods r, arranged if desired in openings in the stanchions, as in Fig. 2, are adapted to reinforce the concrete filling j. The outer covering, g may be secured in position by transverse ties consisting of pieces of wire, atttacbed respectively to pins or holes in the covering and to the wood fillets and having their ends twisted together. A lining of tarred paper or a coating of moisture-proof material may be applied to the inner face of the inner lining. Wood fillets tor supporting the inner sheets may be placed intermediately of the stanchions. The stanchions may be of U, H-. or T-section, and they may be of wood, as in Fig. 5, and have dowel pins a<1> or openings for keying with the concrete. Wood stanchions are connected at the base by a girder t. Asbestos cement sheets are secured to the undersides of joists and soffits. Partition walls are formed by casting breeze concrete in a frame work consisting of asbestos cement sheets secured to light uprights.
