Abstract

A shaving foam dispensing container with brush 1 for an aerosol can of shaving foam "X", said can being of the type having a depressible stem "Y" through which foam can exit. The dispenser and brush 1 has a cap housing 2 adapted to fit on an aerosol can "X" of shaving foam, and the cap housing is adapted to depress said can stein. A brush 5 is mounted on the cap housing 2 such that the brush extends from the housing. A channel 11 is provided having one end connected to the brush and the other end connected to the aerosol can stem. The arrangement further comprises an electric motor 8 which rotates the brush via a gear mechanism. In use, when said stem is depressed, foam exits along the channel 11 to the brush 5 whereby the brush can be used to apply shaving foam to the face.

Description

Title: Shaving Foam Dispenser with Brush The present invention relates to a shaving foam dispenser with brush.
It is common practice when wet shaving to dispense shaving foam from an aerosol can or make foam from a shaving soap, and then use a brush to apply the foam over the face. A problem with this is that both a brush and aerosol can are required, and it can be hard work applying the soap by brush.
The invention seeks to provide a solution to this problem.
According to the present invention there is provided a shaving foam dispenser with brush for an aerosol can of shaving foam, said can being of the type having a depressible stem through which foam can exit, said dispenser and brush comprising: a) a cap housing adapted to fit on an aerosol can of shaving foam, said cap housing being adapted to depress said can stem, b) a brush mounted on the cap housing such that the brush extends from the housing, and c) a channel having one end connected to the brush and the other end connected to the aerosol can stem, in use, when said stem is depressed, foam exiting along the channel to the brush whereby the brush can be used to apply shaving foam to the face.
Preferably the brush is rotatable. Preferably the brush is rotatable by a motor. Preferably a switch is provided for the motor. The motor may be an electric motor or gas-operated motor.
Preferably the cap housing includes a button to depress the stem.
In one embodiment the brush head has a rotational axis about an angle of about 45 degrees to the can stem.
In one embodiment the channel is in the form of a shaft which at a first end provides a rotational axis for the brush head. Preferably the shaft other second end is connected to the stem by an expandable connector to accommodate movement of the stem. The expandable connector may be a sleeve which concertinas.
Preferably the brush has a tip formed by the ends of bristles which is concave whereby the length of the bristles at the outer periphery of the brush are longer than those in the middle of the brush.
In on embodiment the brush has a base supporting bristles, said base further supporting a toothed wheel driven by a toothed wheel on a motor shaft.
Preferably the dispenser and brush has a recess to accommodate a shaving foam can. Preferably the dispenser and brush further includes a stand to cover the recess whereby the dispenser and brush can stand on a flat surface and be used independently of the shaving foam can.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which; Figure I shows a perspective view of a dispenser on an aerosol can of shaving foam, Figure 2 shows a cross section view of Figure 1, and Figure 3 shows a cross section view of an alternative construction.
Referring to the drawings there is shown a shaving foam dispenser with brush 1 for an aerosol can of shaving foam "X". Can "X" is of the type well known in the art, and has a depressible stem "Y" through which foam can exit. The dispenser is preferably waterproof.
Dispenser and brush 1 has a cap housing 2 adapted to fit with a "snap-on" fit on aerosol can of shaving foam "X". Cap housing 2 has a button 3 connected to a hollow shaft 4 adapted to engage and depress can stem "Y".
A brush 5 is mounted on the cap housing 2 and extends from the housing. Brush 5 is mounted on a disc 6 with a central aperture 6A. Disc 6 is supported to rotate in an annular bearing 7 in the cap housing wall, and is driven to rotate by a motor 8. Motor 8 is powered by a battery 9 and may be turned on or off by switch 10 (alternatively the motor could be gas-operated).
A channel 11 has one end connected to the brush disc central aperture 6A by a rotatable joint 12 and the other end of channel 11 is connected to the shaft 4.
In use, when said stem "Y" is depressed by button 3, foam exits along the channel II to the brush 5 to fill the bristles, whereby the brush 5 can be used to apply shaving foam to the face.
Motor 8 can be switched on to rotate the bristles to help the application of foam to the face.
Referring now to Figure 3 there is shown a cross section of an alternative construction.
A shaving foam dispenser 20 with brush is shown for an aerosol can "A" of shaving foam. Can "A" is of the type well known in the art, and has a depressible stem "B" through which foam can exit. The dispenser is preferably waterproof.
A cap housing 22 is adapted to fit onto aerosol can "A". Cap housing 22 has a button 23 connected to an L-shaped shaft 24 adapted to engage and depress can stem "B".
A rotatable brush 24 is mounted on the cap housing 22 such that the brush extends from the housing. Brush 24 has a base 25 supporting bristles 26, and further supporting a toothed wheel 27 driven by a toothed wheel 28 on a motor shaft 29 of motor 30. Motor 30 is powered by a rechargeable battery 31 and is switched on and off by button switch 32.
As shown, the brush head 24 has a rotational axis angled about 45 degrees to the can stem "B" moving axis.
Bristles 26 may detachable from base 25 so that they can be replaced andlor cleaned from time to time. Base 25 may include an annular flange 25A to seal the base against the housing 22.
A channel in the form of a shaft 33 has one first end 33A connected to the brush head 24 and the other second end 33B connected to the aerosol can stem "B". Shaft first end 33A provides a rotational axis for the brush head 24. The shaft second end 33B is connected to the stem "B" by an expandable connector in the form of a sleeve 34 which concertinas to accommodate movement of the stem "B".
n use, when said stem "B" is depressed by button 23, foam exits along the shaft 33 to the brush 24 to fill the bristles 26, whereby the brush 24 can be used to apply shaving foam to the face.
Motor 30 can be switched on to rotate the bristles to help the application of foam to the face.
The invention would enable the user to evenly spread the foam over the area to be shaved without creating the waste that typically results when this process is executed using one's hands.
The invention may take a form different to that specifically described. For example the brush need not rotate. Also the brush has a tip formed by the ends of bristles which is concave whereby the length of the bristles at the outer periphery of the brush are longer than those in the middle of the brush. The concave tip may help to contain foam within the bristles as the brush rotates. The brush may virbrate or oscillate to provide a massaging effect.
The dispenser of the invention can be attached to any conventional can or shaving foam (the term shaving foam herein includes shaving gel), when seated on the can it should grip the can tightly and may present the appearance of being part of the can. It enables the user to apply shaving foam to a targeted area of the body in a quick and efficient manner. It can also be used with foam sticks/soaps and shaving oils.
As shown the dispenser and brush has a recess to accommodate the top of the shaving foam can The dispenser and brush may however further include a stand to cover the recess whereby the dispenser and brush can stand on a flat surface and be used independently of the shaving foam can. In this respect the dispensing container could also be used with gel, oil, soap sticks, and shaving cream.
