Abstract

A lance 50 for high pressure jetting of tubes of a heat exchanger core, comprises a tube 52, at least one nozzle at the end of the tube 52 for emitting a jet of water for cleaning the outer surfaces of the tubes of the core and a coupling 56 for connecting the tube 52 to a high pressure supply line. The tube 52 of the lance has an outer diameter sufficiently small to fit between the tubes of the core, and at least one elongate stabiliser bar 64, 66 is mounted on the coupling and positioned on one side of the tube with its axes lying in the same plane as the tube. The bar 64, 66 is sufficiently thin to fit between the tubes of the heat exchanger core yet sufficiently rigid to prevent lateral displacement of the tube. It is possible either to provide two stabiliser bars 64, 66 but if the tube 52 is made to rotate during use, by using motor 60, then one stabilizer bar will suffice.
