Abstract

A curved wall is formed from framing comprising curved horizontal ribs and upright members. All the ribs are identical in size and shape. One rib is attached to the floor to act as a sole plate. One attached to the ceiling as a header. From top to bottom of the wall there are alternating ribs and uprights. Typical installation would be a curved feature wall adjoining two straight timber stud walls. Typical materials would be MDF sheet cut into horizontal ribs and also vertical uprights. A range of sizes and diameters to suit requirement can be achieved using this method. Alternatively, pre-formed ribs are of either metal or plastic and have raised lips on both internal and external edges allowing standard sizes of timber to be cut to length, and used as uprights.

Description
System for installing curved or irregularly shaped walls.
Building a curved wall can be time consuming requiring a high degree of skill. This can make the installation of curved walls costly and with varying degrees of success.
A modular system of preformed ribs and vertical uprights, allowing quicker and more uniform installation of curved wall framework. Uprights are fixed to ribs, and each end of each rib is attached to the structure adjoining it.
Typical installation using this system would be a curved feature wall joining two straight timber stud walls (Figure 1). Building a wall using this system this would offer a significant reduction in labour time compared to on a one-off custom installation using traditional methods.
The system is modular so walls of any height are easy to build. Typical application would be curved under-counter feature used in bars.
The system would be supplied as either: * Flat pack kit, ribs and uprights are pre cut from sheets of MDF or similar material.
* Preformed ribs with raised edges to give rib a H' profile. Uprights are cut from standard lenghts of timber and fix between the raised lips on the ribs.
