Abstract

A portable and inflatable car seat is provided, comprising an inflatable base unit comprising a first flat panel; and an inflatable back unit comprising a second flat panel and a third flat panel. The first flat panel may be connected to the second flat panel, and the third flat panel may be slidably arranged in relation to the second flat panel. The inflatable base and back units may be foldable with respect to each other in a deflated state, and in an inflated state the inflatable base and back units may form the car seat. The inflatable base unit may further comprise two arm rests, each arm rest being foldably connected to the first flat panel and foldable into the inflatable base unit.

Description

Description
Inflatable, Portable car seat, also could be used in all travel places with seat belts.
The idea is have a solid frame with an inflatable cushioning around the frame to support the child when seated. The frame with be collapsible so that the seat when deflated can be placed into a small bag for transportation.
Many of the large hire companies don't supply child seats with the cars, the advantages of having a portable system is that is comfortable, and safe and portable. These could also be used in other forms of transportation like aeroplanes and taxi's.
The basic structure will be a solid plastic with plastic mechanics to make it easy for international travel.
The Portable travel seat will use existing seat belts or Isofix connections enabling it to be used in all cars, or travel types with seat belts (Figure 1 point 5).
Figure 1 The seat belts will be secured in to the main frame (Arrow 1) the inflated areas will support the head, body (Arrow 2) and the hips (Arrow 5) Once inflated the seatbelt will wrap around the structure to hold the seat and passenger into position.
The seat will be able to separate into two sections, the booster section (as seen in figure 4) will be sold either on it's own or with the second piece, the back support. A plastic joint will join them and the seat will need to be in a flat position to separated.
Main structure: see Figure 2 The overall structure will consist of three flat panels that will fold into a flat shape the top piece marked as I will slide down on plastic runners shown with arrow 2, and then the two pieces will fold flat onto the base unit. There will be a clip that will keep all the pieces together for transportation.
(Figure 3) There will be extra cushoning around the head area.
Arm rests: see Figure 5 & 6 The arm rests will be supported by sheet plastic or similar materials, and will be connected to the sides of the base section using plastic joints, these will be lock at 900 (Figure 4 arrow 1) to give support to the hips.
Once deflated the side sections would fold into the main frame (Figure 5) The base section would also be able to be connected by Isofix (Figure 4 Arrow 3) The armrests will be part of the main structure that also supports the hips (Figure 6) Inflation I Deflation: As part of the design we plan to supply an electric pump that will be able to inflate and deflate the top and bottom section. This will be stored in the bag used to pack the seat and will be powered by any cigarette lighter power supply.
Safety: The seat will also act like an air bag for the body, giving flexible cushion support the body. The seats would be much more comfortable then your average car seats as they would be cushioned by air.
The seat could be used also as a permanent seat as it would be much more suited to long journeys and would give more cushioning support then the average solid plastic seats.
The main frame structure would be made out of a strong plastic material. The main frame will consist of three flat panels two for the back and one for the base. The two top sections would use a rail mechanism to enable then to extend and retract. The connections would be made with Plastic dove bolts which can be easily tightened and loosened. This will allow the back to extend and retract to the right height for the child.
There will be a hole for the seat belt to fit into on both sides allowing the seats to go anywhere in the car (See Figure 1 point 3) The base and the back are detachable so that if you only need the booster seat you can remove the back. These will use simple anchor joints.
The overall inflatable section would be connected to the frame by either stitching or glue. As the seat is inflated the supporting frame would automatically move into the supporting positions.
The seat will be sold with a cigarette lighter pump that will both inflate and deflate the seat.
There will also but lsofux connections at the rear of the chair.
The seats themselves will be much more comfortable than the ordinary hard seats and will also supply more cushioning.
The seat will be used only for children 4 to 11 years.
The seats could be used as permanent solutions that are easily removed, stored or transported.
The cushions would be made out of a reinforced plastic to prevent puncturing or damage, this will also mean that they will be waterproof so easy for washing down and spills.
Colours: Will be supplied in a variety of colours and finishes.
Possible naming: Car travel seat
