Abstract

A mattress support base incorporating a TV monitor support arm, where the support arm and TV monitor can be laterally extended from within a divan base. When extended, the TV support arm can then pivot to a near vertical plane, enabling the support arm to re-enter the mattress support base with the TV monitor upright and the TV monitor above the bed.

Description

MATTRESS SUPPORT BASE WITH INTEGRATED
TV MONITOR STAND AND STOWEAGE
The present invention relates to a support stand for a TV monitor that is incorporated within the mattress support base of a bed or the like.
Traditionally Television sets used in the bedroom are usually located on a piece of furniture adjacent to the bed; this may not be the optimum viewing position for someone lying in bed but is ultimately determined by the amount of space available in the bedroom.
The object of this invention is to eliminate the need for any specific article of furniture to support the television monitor and to provide a concealed storage compartment to stow the TV monitor and ancillary items from view when not in use.
A television used in a bedroom can be disruptive to other occupants of the household who may be sleeping in any adjacent bedrooms; this means that the sound level for any potential viewer may need to be restricted; headphones are not usually an option due to the distance of the TV from the viewer, this invention allows the viewer to be in a closer proximity to the monitor facilitating a lower volume setting or the use of headphones if required, this may be useful if in the case of a shared occupancy room when the viewers partner wishes to sleep. The closer proximity of the monitor to the viewer also allows a smaller TV screen size to be used rather than the more expensive larger screen models; this is more convenient for the playing of computer generated video games as most garners adopt a position closer to the monitor than is normal.
In its stowed position the bed looks substantially the same as a normal divan bed Fig 1, the TV support stand arm is withdrawn from the side of the divan in a lateral sliding action until the monitor is clear of the divan base Fig2, the support stand is then pivoted upwards Fig3 until the monitor is in a satisfactory upright position Fig4, the support stand is then slid back into the divan base Fig5, the monitor can then be adjusted via pivotal members incorporated in the monitor support head to obtain an optimum viewing position.

Claims (10)

  1. CLAIMS1. A mattress support base incorporating a pivoting support arm for a TV monitor or the like.
  2. 2. A mattress support base incorporating a support arm with dedicated area for stowing a TV monitor and ancillary items such as game consoles and CD players.
  3. 3. A mattress support base according to claim 1 wherein the support arm can be withdrawn in a lateral action from the mattress support base.
  4. 4. A mattress support base constructed from either wood, metal or other man made materials incorporating a pivoting support arm for a TV monitor or the like wherein any supporting element of the TV monitor support arm is substantially connected to the mattress support base.
  5. 5. A TV monitor support arm that can be withdrawn from either the side or foot end of the mattress support base.
  6. 6. A mattress support base incorporating a TV monitor support arm according to claim 2 that is used as a wiring conduit for the power and video and video game connections to and from the TV monitor.
  7. 7. A Mattress support base wherein any portion of the base is connected to a pivoting TV support arm as described in claim 1.
  8. 8. A mattress support base incorporating a TV support arm according to claim 2 wherein the action of closing the support arm disables the power supply to the TV monitor.
  9. 9. A adjustable mattress support base with a pivoting TV support arm as described in claim 1 and 3.
  10. 10. A mattress support base incorporating a TV support arm with a dedicated storage area for the location of ancillary video game consoles.
